What People Are Saying About Heartland Brewery
The Owner
Heartland Brewery

Located in the heart of Union Square, in a space that originally housed the Klepper collapsible kayak store, this is the original Heartland - the one that started it all. With a downtown location, outdoor sidewalk seating, and views of Union Square Park from its mezzanine, it's beloved by New Yorkers as a classic meeting spot for after-work drinks complemented by addictive bites such as our five-tier appetizer platter. Please note: we feature a different hand-crafted, cask-conditioned ale on the first Friday of every month at this location.

The Scene – After work, after the movies, after dinner, after a date, after the green market--this branch of the New York City brewpub chain works well to top off almost any casual day or night out without much hassle. Its dark wood interior and mix of high-top tables near the front bar and deep wooden booths toward the back serves a mix of drinkers and eaters, but don't try to kid anyone--you're here for the beer. – – The Draw – Farmer Jon's oatmeal stout is an out-front winner, and despite its deep, rich flavor with hints of espresso, the finish never gets heavy. the turkey burger wasn't bad just blah....otherwise nothing but raves. my server was fantastic--part therapist, part comedian, she was perfect. sorry i don't know her name or else i'd gush on her. i went in alone after shopping at the farmers market across the street. i was seated quickly and actually ordered a beer because i'd seen a lot of ads for their 'summer brew' which is apricot beer. as a total girlie girl, first, i don't like beer normally and secondly, there was no apricot flavor noted...but the french fries were delicious. the turkey burger was well-done which is not always the case and with turkey you want it done, so kudos on that. just NO flavoring on it which disappointed me. but again, i add more love in my kudos for that killer RAD cranberry ketchup. that stuff should be offered as an I.V. drip. it's that good! i could buy that cranberry ketchup on its own and slather it on food at home. the bill was handled quickly and the easy vibe was enhanced by how many families were dining around me. everyone just seemed really happy, both diners and servers. the runner who brought out my food was a hottie, too. great on the eyes but not friendly at all. with guys like that i could totally be a cougar. LOL this is just a great place to take someone who likes to drink. i love this place. it's a narrow-shaped room but i was in towards the back and it was a bit dark back there. if you want more natural lighting, i'd suggest you sit up near the entrance or better yet, outside! GO HERE. you will love it. the only reason i gave 4 not 5 stars was the lackluster turkey flavoring/seasoning and the fact that i don't like sports much and of course many TVs were blasting super hetero sports. this is not a bad thing against the place, just that for me a sports bar is not normally my cup of tea....which makes it all the more impressive that i would go here by choice. again, killer fries and top service. ENJOY.
- Pros: location, beer variety, great service, family-friendly
- Cons: turkey burger, sports, dark/low lighting in back

I was at Heartland the other night and had a great time. I had fried pickles and Oatmeal stout. Both were really good, especially the beer. The service was pretty good too. I am defiantly going to make this regular spot for beer and a bite to eat.
- Pros: Great beer and atmosphere
