What Our Expert Scouts Say

Pommes Frites

Oh hallo, Pommes Frites, is that you flagging me down like a taxicab with your wafting fried aromas and endless list of sauces? We tried your Vietnamese Five Spice Pineapple Mayo and almost swooned. Dill lemon, sweet chili, and curry ketchup are also sure bets. Thick crispy frites with tangy sauces will always hold a place in my late-night heart.

French fries are the ultimate walking-around food, and this temple of frites might be the ultimate source for them. The twice-fried potatoes come in paper cones with a choice of dipping sauces, and you buy them from a window, pay, and then walk away, happy and greasy.

Crispy every time. The black truffle oil mayo that's been there recently is amazing to say the least. Outside of that, the starchy double fried fries are delicious. Yum!

Delicious Snack!. Used to be super fresh fries with killer dips. Nothing lets you know they're fresh more than the flats with paper bags full of potatoes that are stacked out front every morning. Latest excursion was OK.

Scam. I hope noone else made the mistake that I made. I purchased a deal for Pommes Frites with Buywithme. I paid $10 for $22 worth of fries in the form of two coupons worth $11 each. I printed the coupons and wrote my name and address on the bottom like they requested. I used one coupon no problem. I kept the second coupon in my pocketbook and when I went to use it this past saturday they told me both were already used and they laughed at me. I told them they were scaming me and they laughed even harder. I called and e-mailed buywithme and got no reply. I just want my money back because I will never step foot in that store again. I was never so embaressed in my life. I have never had such a problem with groupons.

Good fries. $5.5 for a small (which should be more than fine even if you share) including 1 topping...

VERY good selection of toppings..

The place however is very small and not so clean to the eye...

Pommes Frites... saucy!. Pommes Frites in the E. Village is TINY, so don't walk past it. (Shouldn't be difficult to accomplish, considering there is a line out the door about 90% of the shop's opening hours.) Frites come in three sizes - I always get a Regular size, it's sharable, trust me. The real fun, though, is the sauce menu. It's like a Baskin-Robbins 31 flavors! Personal favs include:

rosemary garlic mayo, sweet mango chutney mayo and believe it or not, good ol' fritessaus (which is one of a few free toppings you can opt for).

Friends and I have concluded that the mayo-based sauces are best. (Sorry non-mayo lovers, you are fresh out of luck.) Stay away from the cheeses and ketchups, they are just plain boring compared to most of these other homemade concoctions. Hail Canada - they have Poutine too! Next on my list to try.

Worst Fries Ever!!!!!!. I have been a loyal customer for years. I always thought their fries were the best in the city. However, I recently went there and was horrified. The fries were disgusting. They were extremely oily, tasted terrible and the smell of them actually sickened me. The sauces were also horrible. When I first walked in, I should have known better. I saw that there were new workers and I thought the potatoes looked odd. I remember them having some of the skin on them. I went ahead and ordered two doubles along with the mango chutney sauce, cheddar cheese and curry ketchup. When I got outside to my car, my family could not wait to dig in. Well, what a disappointment. We all thought the fries were too greasy and the sauces without flavor. I think they are using substandard potatoes and oil. I hope they go back to how they use to be. $25 later, we threw everything out. The smell was actually making us sick in the car.

ehh used to be better. I have been a loyal pommes frites customer for years but I believe in the last year there was a change in owners and the flavors have not been the same. The fries are now super oily and the sauces are less flavorful. My usual sauces are the mango chutney and the tomato basil. Considering the price of fries here are not cheap I really expect a non oily fry. Hopefully they get back to the way they used to be.

best fries in nyc!. The fries are just amazing! Easily the best in nyc. It's better to order to go though, since it's a very small shop with not many tables.

Good or miss. I don't know what it is but recently it's becoming more and more good or miss. Very strange these days.
