No Food, Spacious Back Room.
No matter how many times I see it, I still don't get it. Is it New York bars or is it everywhere?
I'm in the spacious back room of this bar. There are three sets of communal tables along the walls. Seating for about 80 people. Most of the chairs have jackets, or sweaters over the backs. A few have bags on them. A couple dozen people are drinking and shouting at each other. They are all standing in the middle of the room. NO ONE SITS DOWN! The chairs are coat racks. The coats block anyone else from sitting, but these 30-somethings stand. Why? Can someone explain this to me? A room full of tables and chairs and everyone stands. WTF????
There's an okay beer selection. No food. They do have a book of restaurants that deliver. Beware of the Mexican place which answers the phone in a Chinese accent. The next day, I paid dearly for those tacos. If I believed there was a God who blessed Imodium, I would thank her.
The barstaff is friendly and accommodating. The customers are as cliquish as the Hatfields and the McCoys. It's not a bad place to grab a quick one. I recommend the back room. Just sit down!
Perfect After Work Bar. After all this time, No Idea is still the place I go to when I want a drink before heading home. Good crowd, good staff
Still waiting for my name night.... Best Pick-up line used at this bar. "I'll take another Brooklyn... On her tab" Looked like it worked too. Not saying the girls that go here are easy... just that this bar has an amazing atmosphere and we have great laughs every time we go. Many times our nights have started here as an after work meeting point, gone elsewhere only to be disappointed and ended up back here to recover the night. still waiting for my name though...
Love at First Glug.
I met my girlfriend here one year ago today. Luckiest day of my life. I was glugging down those pint-glass mixed drinks (how'd they know that's how I make them at home?) with two buddies. Well, for $20 I was nice and toasty and filled with courage. So I went up to her and said "I don't have a line." I know that was a line, but it worked. Bartender heard it and made fun of me. And by the end the three of us were yukking and exchanging cell numbers.
So god bless you No Idea. You quenched my thirst and you hooked me up, and we're going there tonight. Take it away comic books man: "BEST ... BAR ... EVER!"
No Idea!!!. No Idea is a GREAT neighborhood bar. I've been going there for years. Great location, great people, great bartenders and a great spot to meet people after work. The only problem is that I don't live closer and am only able to go during the weekdays. Highly recommended!
Where everyone knows you're lame. This is my favorite bar in NYC hands down. First came here a few years ago for a friend's name night, I've had several parties here since. The staff are friendly and really funny and pretty hot too. Not only are the mixed drinks huge, the place is surprising big too. Other than the bar room (which gets pretty crowded) there's the pool room and another large TV room in the back with benches and what not. I've met a lot of strange characters at this bar, and the crowd itself is a mix of after work folks in suits, young partiers and people looking to get drunk. No more juke box is sad, but such is life I guess. This is not date place or a place to take your folks visiting from out of town, but it is a great place to get drunk and have a loud good time.
A step above the typical bar experience. Cheap drinks, enough seats, great midweek spot to hang out with friends after work. It's not super special, but it's just right for a no-muss, no-fuss evening chatting with friends. Plus, if your name matches the name of the day, you drink for free!
Went here for the first time on Saturday. I dont work here or know anyone who does but I had a fantastic time. Somehow we ended up here after a halloween party. Our bar tender was laura-ann or something like that (dont remember because I was a mess at this point), but she was fantastic. We were talking to her and we were buying drinks and she took great care of us. I was buying 4 beers and 6 shots Jager (one for Laura-Ann and the other bartender) and it was costing me $20!! I had a blast and am definitely going to go back. Its definitely worth checking out.
Hit it for free drinks on your name day..
In Short
Occupying a space familiar to New York bar patrons, No Idea is long and skinny, with exposed brick walls and a pool table tucked in back. A mural of "Alice in Wonderland" characters gives a clue as to the overall mood of this Gramercy-area watering hole--kinda kitschy, but harmless enough. What makes this place stand out is the infamous name game--show up on the day your name is marked on the calendar, and you drink for free.
Best Drinks.
I love this bar, its the best place to pre-game before a night at the club. The drinks are cheap and givin in big glasses. The bartenders are always nice, and this has to be the first bar ive ever gotten buy-backs from. Me and my friends started to get free shots after buying a couple.
Dont waste you money one tiny drinks that cost $11 at the club, when you can get a nice big glass here for half the price!
