Editorial Review for Nevada Smith's – by Dustin Smith
The Scene
With its loft-like roominess, eight televisions and looming projector screen in the back, Nevada Smith's is one of the most amply appointed sports pubs downtown. Import pints for $5 make the space even more inviting for an often jam-packed crowd of rowdy sports fans. A smaller downstairs lounge named Chrissy Mac's absorbs the overflow.
The Draw
While everyone here likes sports, they don't like just any sport: They like football--of the European type, mate. And they like it a lot. The energetic Irish staff encourages fans to divide into teams and chant slogans at each other, and tourists are known to stop by to watch the wild fans as much as the televised matches. Bar hours, along with everything else here, revolve around football: If there's a game kicking off overseas at 7am EST, Nevada Smith's will have its doors open and TVs on.

Not that its what the crowds are looking for on game-day. What lures them in is the soccer-conducive atmosphere and by soccer-conducive I mean rambunctious soccer "force this sport down your throat with this beer" atmosphere. Impossible not to have a good time, (unless your team loses, in which case thats why theres alcohol). This bar has a "director of football" in charge of having as many games on TV as is technologically feasible. Go to Soccertv's website right now, take a look and compare it with the schedule at Nevada smith's website.... You want to see Preston North End vs Southampton Live? Clear your Monday, and expect other people watching the game with you. If you can handle a loud rowdy soccer crowd in its distilled form, go to a weekend Manchester United game circa 10am. I once had a 5'7' fan pick me up and spin me around after a man utd goal (I'm 6'1 195 pounds). If soccer is a religion, than this is its Mass. Watching soccer at any other bar is for the heathens.
Pros: Friendly, patient staff. hilarious random guy always wearing a blazer. Bring your own food.
Cons: On big matchdays, barcelona-madrid, manchester -arsenal etc. can get caustrophobically crowded .
