“Great atmosphere , great vision angles for the TV's and great beer too !”
“absolutely love this bar, and have been going there weekly for years.”
“And the variety of games show ensure a quite international crowd - on a rainy and cold Sunday, it really feels like you're somewhere in Europe.”
“This is clearly the best place to be in North America if you are a soccer fan.”
“Unlike other self-proclaimed soccer friendly bars, Nevada Smith's doesn't just show 2-3 soccer games per week and then switch back to baseball or basketball the rest of the time.”
“Excellent service, cheap drinks, Dj at the weekend, karaoke thursday Plasma tv's.”
“You can barely see the big screen the picture is so dark and grainy, the other screens are either too small or too spread out, and the service for beer is too slow.”
Great place to watch a match. Have been here a few times to watch my team play. Always a good crowd and always a good time. Also nice selection on tap. Worth a visit on a Saturday morning.
Upstairs and Downstairs. Once you get past the strict-but-not-rude doorman, you have a choice between going to the more sports-bar oriented upstairs or the wilder, (especially on Thursdays), downstairs bar. On Thursdays, COUCH SURFING (couchsurfing-DOT-com) hosts its get-togethers. You'll meet plenty of people from parts of the world you never heard of! It's a great mix, and everyone is friendly, including the bartender. The only problem is that the music is a bit to loud to converse over... especially if English isn't your first language. Oh yeah, THERE'S NO FOOD! --Drink Club NYC is a roving group of NYC drinkers
Soccer game mecca.
A happening sports bar in East Village that plays soccer games! Hence, there are usually a lot of Europeans and South American Patrons. Came here on one week night before and it was really chill and drinks here are cheap. What is even better is that I saw Daniel Craig here!
Came by again with friends on a Saturday night and it was totally different. There was live DJ spinning and it was happening. Drinks remain reasonably priced. I just like the energy here.
Other than soccer games, they also play other sports games as well.
Good bar, horrible bouncer.
Bar is good however the fat bald surly bouncer that works on Saturday nights has an attitude problem.
This past Saturday, I walked in w/o anyone asking me for ID, no one was at the door. I was meeting a friend there so I wasn't talking to anybody and was by myself watching TV at the bar in the interim. A few minutes later after I ordered my first drink this fat surly bald man asked me for my id and I was told to step away from the bar and go back near the front door to show him my ID. Kind of weird but here look I'm born in 1975 do what you need to do.
My friends show up all is OK, after about an hour we decide to leave, on the way out the bald fat surly bouncer stands between me and the front door preventing me from leaving. I said excuse me,what's the problem, he was preventing me from leaving accusing me of trying to avoid him when I walked in an hour ago, being extremely confrontational and ready for a fight.
According to the fat bald surly bouncer I avoided him on the way in the bar so I didn't have to show my ID, which is ridiculous as I am 34 years old and not an NYU student.
My common sense took precedent but I still called bullshit on what he was saying, he just got angrier and angrier, he was ready for an altercation. I told him I'm leaving I'm not getting in a fight with a bouncer that can't do his job of watching the door.
A bouncer picking a fight with the customers is totally unacceptable. End of story., thank you.
my favorite bar in the world! yup!. Simply the best place in the entire WORLD to watch English football (soccer). Come early to make sure you get in. I've never gone to this bar past 5pm but I've easily gone 50 times as early as 8am! Crowds chanting for their favorite teams as they have their eye openers. This is what football is all about. The beer selection is good but that's not why you go there. The bartender is a great guy and will comp you a beer here and there if you become a regular. forget finding a seat, you stand and cheer for your team. The guy at the door might be a bit grumpy but i guess he knows that getting in is worth it. If you're not an english football fan there's no point in going, but if you are it's heaven! It's the place 'where football is religion'!
Great drinks. Great bartender..
I've been to this place about 5 times. At random mostly. Every single time it has been pleasant. I've read all these reviews about watching games but its a fantastic place to go just to talk and get wasted. I've gone on Thursdays and & fridays mostly. It's always been a good time. They make a slammin' Amaretto Sour and their drinks are pretty strong. I'm pretty sure during game night it must be chaotic so if you don't want to get caught up in all that mess, just check beforehand. I plan to have my birthday get together in December at
Nevada Smiths. Can't wait!
If Jesus was a soccer fan, this is where his second coming would be..
Not that its what the crowds are looking for on game-day. What lures them in is the soccer-conducive atmosphere and by soccer-conducive I mean rambunctious soccer "force this sport down your throat with this beer" atmosphere. Impossible not to have a good time, (unless your team loses, in which case thats why theres alcohol). This bar has a "director of football" in charge of having as many games on TV as is technologically feasible. Go to Soccertv's website right now, take a look and compare it with the schedule at Nevada smith's website....
You want to see Preston North End vs Southampton Live? Clear your Monday, and expect other people watching the game with you. If you can handle a loud rowdy soccer crowd in its distilled form, go to a weekend Manchester United game circa 10am. I once had a 5'7' fan pick me up and spin me around after a man utd goal (I'm 6'1 195 pounds). If soccer is a religion, than this is its Mass. Watching soccer at any other bar is for the heathens.
The Perfect Bar. It's Perfect...All Booze inside and if you want food you can just walk out and carry whatever in...Excellent staff...and the greatest SportsBar ever...Better than ESPNZONE and the rest of Corporate USA Bars....CHEERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's always kickoff time at this rambunctious pub..
The Scene
With its loft-like roominess, eight televisions and looming projector screen in the back, Nevada Smith's is one of the most amply appointed sports pubs downtown. Import pints for $5 make the space even more inviting for an often jam-packed crowd of rowdy sports fans. A smaller downstairs lounge named Chrissy Mac's absorbs the overflow.
The Draw
While everyone here likes sports, they don't like just any sport: They like football--of the European type, mate. And they like it a lot. The energetic Irish staff encourages fans to divide into teams and chant slogans at each other, and tourists are known to stop by to watch the wild fans as much as the televised matches. Bar hours, along with everything else here, revolve around football: If there's a game kicking off overseas at 7am EST, Nevada Smith's will have its doors open and TVs on.
just fantastic for all sports.
