First date? Newly in love? A tryst with your mistress? This "big" bar is far from big and very close to small and intimate. Stare into your lover's eyes, in the candlelight glow, as you sip Manhattans, whispering dirty thoughts.
Serves the purpose.. Big Bar is a nice little bar that serves the purpose if are looking to have a drink at a reasonable price. I'm not sure I would stay if I didn't get a table or a spot at the bar, but there was room when I went on a Saturday night. A friendly bartender was efficient, and in a major technological advance, they post their beers (plus the prices) on a sign on the wall. So I was spared asking the usual "what beers do you have?" and he didn't have to answer the same question for the 37,096th time.
Small, Friendly Drink Joint. This bar is BIG when it comes to welcoming staff and clientele and small when it comes to capacity. No nonsense, small joint for hanging with a couple of friends and for meeting some new ones. Cool owner, very friendly bartender....you'll stay for one drink, or you may end up staying all night.
The little bar with a big personality..
The Scene
The first thing you should know is that Big Bar is (of course) tiny--four shiny plastic-covered booths to be precise, plus a couple of stools around the miniature bar. If you want to feel tall, this is the place to be. A glamorous crowd basks in the red glow of the place, reflected in the circular mirrors creating a border around the walls. Cozy booths, dance music, and disco lights create an intimate yet clubby environment.
The Draw
This is a unique and stylish little boite in the East Village where one can ease into club mode with friends without feeling overdressed, or just partake of club atmosphere without the pesky dancing and crowds.
Fabulous Little Hideout.
For the best Stoli Vanil and cranberry juice straight up (a "cranilla"), there is no other place to go. Staff a friendly, and always remember you.
Shabby Chic, booths, sexy, a secret of the East Village :)
Crowded at the weekends, but just right during the week.
best bartender. go during the week when there is time for the bartender to give you attention because the bartender is one of the best in the city. too bad he is leaving to start his own place, he will be missed...
Hidden gem. Great, tiny bar. Not too divey, but just enough so that it's got character. Always good music playing, and nice mixed-up crowd. Bartenders can be more interested in chatting with their friends than serving drinks, though.
