Editorial Review for Paragon Sports – by Brian Merchant
In Short
A more fitting moniker there could not be: This gargantuan, three-story space proves itself the model Manhattan sports shop by covering all the bases. Exercise machines, hiking gear, sportswear, snowboards--if it ever came within 10 miles of the Olympic games, you'll find it here. At times, with walls packed with colorful goods and hordes of customers rushing to their desired departments, the labyrinthine store can feel more disorienting than neighboring Union Square.
Hits: A sure bet for any sporting need thanks to its gigantic stock, the convenient Union Square location makes Paragon easily accessible as well.
Misses: You may need to buy one of their compasses to find your way out of the massive, crowded store.

I have been trying to buy a pair of sunglasses from Paragon for the last 10 days and I have been given the complete runaround. They may have extensive stock but that's where the pros of shopping here end. I have been told a different story by almost everyone I have spoken to. I have been given misinformation from "the glasses are on order" ; " they came in the other day and have all sold out" ; "they are no longer making them" to "we have them upstairs in the stock room, they just need to be unpacked". Come on guys - get your act together. There is no excuse for such poor and oftentimes rude customer service. I wouldn't mind being told they are not available but just give me the correct information. I will not be shopping here again, even if they are the only store stocking what I need. Jack Rabbit and SBR Multisports are much more friendly and helpful.
Pros: Good selection of stock
Cons: Really awful customer service

The below reviews sum it up with rude, ignorant staff! Moving to NY from CA where sporting good stores are everywhere I am used to sales staff that take pride and are knowledgable in the dept they work. Too bad there are not more choices in NY. But until someone opens a decent sporting good store where you can get staff that is more than about being cool, ignoring customers and talking to each other I will buy online or in CA when I am visiting!
Pros: None
Cons: Expensive, rude staff that lack knowledge on dept working
