In Short – A more fitting moniker there could not be: This gargantuan, three-story space proves itself the model Manhattan sports shop by covering all the bases. Exercise machines, hiking gear, sportswear, snowboards--if it ever came within 10 miles of the Olympic games, you'll find it here. At times, with walls packed with colorful goods and hordes of customers rushing to their desired departments, the labyrinthine store can feel more disorienting than neighboring Union Square. – – Hits: A sure bet for any sporting need thanks to its gigantic stock, the convenient Union…

menu variety
60.0% positive
  1. Except for the sales, the prices are not the best, but you are assured of quality products, and the service and selection are outstanding.
  2. Although they seemed to have a lot of variety, the salespeople that I encountered were terrible.
  3. They may have extensive stock but that's where the pros of shopping here end.
  4. Great selection, friendly staff and promt check out.
  5. great selection, not great service

  1. Moving to NY from CA where sporting good stores are everywhere I am used to sales staff that take pride and are knowledgable in the dept they work.
  2. But until someone opens a decent sporting good store where you can get staff that is more than about being cool, ignoring customers and talking to each other I will buy online or in CA when I am visiting!

  1. created this citysearch account solely to warn people about this horrible place.
  2. The below reviews sum it up with rude, ignorant staff!
  3. The service is horrible, I was sent upstairs then downstairs then upstairs again all to find out that I could have found all my items on one floor.
  4. Except for the sales, the prices are not the best, but you are assured of quality products, and the service and selection are outstanding.
  5. Great selection, friendly staff and promt check out.
  6. There is no excuse for such poor and oftentimes rude customer service.
  7. sales staff of rude and unknowledgeable individuals who can care less if you find what you need or not.
  8. I'll definitely rent a car from now on and wont put up with the really poor attitudes of the staff, the unexplained delays and, worst of all, the frustration)
  9. Jen is the worst manager ever !
  10. Paragon has good stuff but that manager sucked.
  11. Jack Rabbit and SBR Multisports are much more friendly and helpful.
  12. The quality of service ranges from mediocre to down right neglectful.
  13. great selection, not great service
  14. But until someone opens a decent sporting good store where you can get staff that is more than about being cool, ignoring customers and talking to each other I will buy online or in CA when I am visiting!

High Quality Jacket

by danny100

I bought an amazing cold weather jacket here, I must say that the down is so thick I look like the Michelen Man in it but who cares if the weather is that cold. It was crazy expensive but I think it is the best available and I could climb the Himalaya's in it and stay comfortable I am pretty sure.

He did his job, laughed at my jokes

by kristennewman676

"I was very happy with Paragon Sports. I love winter sports like downhill skiing and ice skating. I had plans to go ice skating last evening but didn't want to rent skates. When I lived abroad, I went ice skating a lot, so I know that it would be worth it just to buy my own pair of ice skates. Paragon and a maybe a couple of other stores are the only places in the area where you can go and buy a pair of skates. The other retailers have moved that to online only. That would be fine if we're talking about shoes, but you need to know that your skates fit well.

I found a pair I wanted online and called them. They confirmed that they had that pair in my size. I tried them on and that was that: sold. Then I learned that you get free blade sharpening for the lifetime of the skates. It's limited to 3 skate sharpenings per year, but that's awesome because that's not cheap or free. If you look at it from either side, the $5 to 20 a pop to sharpen blades ($20 at CitiPond at Bryant Park, just so you know) or the rental fees required to rent ice skates and I already know buying a pair is worth it. (Of course, that means I have to use them, but I will.)

The guy who helped me wasn't the most chipper but this is NYC and almost no one here is chipper. He did his job, laughed at my jokes and got me out of the store with what I needed. That's all good.

It was my first time at the store and other employees were nice too. Granted, for most stuff, I'll probably order online just due to cost. The store isn't cheap, but when I need sports gear NOW? I know I'll start here from now on."

Huge Store

by Adawg7

This store is enormous. And when I say enormous, I mean enormous. You should come here even if you have no interest in buying something... just to see all the different kinds of sporting goods that exist, and the amazing way its all crammed into a Manhattan space.

I ended up here on a quest for Tevas (water shoes). I had gone to 3 stores, at least (Macy's, Shoemania, DSW) before arriving here. No one had them but Paragon.

Great Store

by aprilwheeler

This store is awesome... It has a lot of merchandise. From bikes, darts, basketball to hockey. This place has it all. They always have an end of season event where they have 1/2 the store filled with awesome deals. Winter gear, wide selection on shoes according to size. I go here to get some winter gear for cheap.
