The Scene – There is neither sign nor awning, which is perhaps one of the reasons rock and fashion royalty flock to these two restored 19th-century townhouses just south of Gramercy Park. Inside are 12 charming rooms, each named for a personality associated with the neighborhood. (Think Madame Olenska from "The Age of Innocence.") The townhouses' original architectural details have been retained and restored, including 14 fireplaces, burled-wood shutters and wood-paneled walls. – – The Details – Amenities are what set these rooms apart from the ordinary B&B. the loveliest hotel in new york is where we stayed last night and were treated like royalty. we felt like a king and lady in this subdued and elegant brownstone near gramercy park, frette linens, fine bone china, the whole shebang and no mass market gimmicks. a remarkable experience in travel.
- Pros: beautiful, great service, private
- Cons: no elevator
FRIENDLY AND ROMANTIC

I've stayed in 50+ hotels throughout NYC. The two times I've stayed at the Inn at Irving Place, I was treating myself and my date to a cozy night away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Staff was extremely friendly (despite super-late check-in), and had great recommendations on parking options. Breakfast was yummy. Accomodations were comfortable. Crazy overpriced in comparison to B+B's outside of NYC... but then again, this is NYC.

My boyfriend & I, reserved the honeymoon suite for his sister & her new husband, and we checked out the room & it was beautiful! The furniture was amazing! The room where you checked in was wonderful, as well as the service we received. The little bar down below was ok, nice to have a drink or two & then go back upstairs to enjoy the great room! It was amazing to know that this was right in the heart of NY!!
