“I've recommended this location, and both Foxy and Chase to several of my friends, who also have had great experiences.”
“For every one (1) bad comment, I am sure there are 100 good ones from people who don't take the time to write on a board.”
“Consistently great haircuts at even better prices”
Nasty Girl. Initially I was satisfied with Portia as a stylist - always good haircuts and decent color. She listened to what I wanted and then did it. And then...ohmygod - she did a 360 turnaround on me - which left me shocked and furious. I became unemployed so was on a tight budget. I went in for a haircut and though I needed to retouch my roots I just wanted a haircut as I was going to take care of the roots myself. She didn't like this but hey.... She didn't realize I was watching her in the mirror - she made a really disgusted face at me and then proceeded to dish out major attitude. I should have left when I saw that grimace but stupidly I didn't. The haircut was ok but her unprofessional and rude behavior was so outrageous that I vowed - never again. I went back to the salon and saw another stylist and Portia gave me one of those 'if looks could kill.' Aside from Portia - unless you love ear splitting music go early in the day - the later it is the louder the music. I also tried to meet with the manager to let him know how awful Portia's behavior was but it was made abundantly clear to me that he wasn't going to give me the time of day. Their loss - I've told all my friends to stay away from this salon - and most especially from Portia - as we used to say, "...she thinks who she is." NOT.
Absolutely AWESOME!!!.
I like this salon a lot, people are great, customer service is excellent, they make you feel like home. I don’t need to explain to my stylist what I need, he just knew how to do my hair. (get the best hair wash and massage ever)
Recommend to others
peeps dont hate, its awesome

Dramatics NYC 5th Ave... Excellent stylist Cobra.
I had the best stylist “Cobra” doing my hair and I have been in lots of different places in NY, but he gave me exactly what I wanted, he understood how I wanted my hair cut and colored. I got amazing highlights and gorgeous cut. My husband liked my hair for the first time; he said I finally found a good professional that is worth every penny. I will definitely go back for my touch up. I totally recommend, and now my girlfriend is waiting her turn
Thank you Cobra for making me look irresistible :))
THE TACKIEST WORST ATTITUDES AND TALENT AROUND!!!!.
I recently went to this salon for a little trim and ended up getting my haircut by a stylist named "freedom" I should have nown at that point this was a mistake-but thought its just a trim-so it would be ok.
I ended up with one side of my hair an inch longer than the other. I didn't realize until the next day after washing and drying it.
I went back and told Freedom the problem. She was so nasty to me said sit down and started hacking away at my hair. Her attitude was horrible-She literally started picking up my hair and cutting like a maniac!!! It was so uneven and badly hacked at anyone would have known there was a problem. She was acting like I was a problem-but her cut was awfull!!!
At that point i went to the manager very upset and explained the situation. He did nothing and was clueless how to handle the situation.
Yes-this really is the bottom of the barrel in Salons-These hairstylists come from a local beauty school and are badly trained in both cutting and etiquette.
Stay Away!!!!! Spend a few extra bucks and go to a professional salon. Freedom needs a new career!!
Not recommended for your precious hair. I walked in for a style. The stylist spoke to me while doing someone else's hair, did not get a sit down comfortable talk at all. I went for a perm (large curls) also called Wave. Ended up with dry frizzy hair looking as if I just woke up from sleep. I paid $300 for that?!!?? the breakout of the cost was $150 for the perm, $50 for products and of course the perm did not cover the little slight trimming ($45) she RECOMMENDED I did and the $50 courtesy tip. To add to my woes when I checked the pricing on the website....hahahah.
Portia is INCREDIBLE.
I wandered into Dramatics on 5th Avenue over two years ago when another salon's stylist stood me up. I was given to Portia who instantly reorganized her schedule so that we could recreate my look. Two years later, I am in her chair once a month without fail.
She is an exceptional stylist and colorist, which is pretty rare. I get bored easily, so we change up my look frequently and she never runs out of ideas or creative looks. People stop me in the office and the street all the time to compliment my hair. People comment that I must spend HOURS styling it. I don't. The cuts are just that good.
I'm not sure that Dramatics realizes what they have in Portia but I would follow her anywhere. In the meantime, I pay about a third of what my style is worth for amazing cuts and color.
I cannot comment on Dramatics as a whole as I have never had anyone but Portia touch my hair but I can say that she is easily the beat stylist I have ever encountered. Stop paying $200 for a haircut and book an appointment with Portia. You can thank me later.
absolute crud!!!. Truly terrible stylists who talk really loudly, curse and act like children, seemingly without any clue that they are at work. One stylist, with very curly, long hair that seems to be highlighted blonde (sorry, I don't remember her name) was INCREDIBLY classless and rude and had absolutely no idea what she was doing. Better off going to super cuts than let her cut your hair. I have been to enough stylists to know when someone just doesn't have any talent and she doesn't. I have also tried 2 other stylists there and was unimpressed, although they were vastly better than her. Better to pay a bit more or try another salon that has actually tried to train their employees.
Harley is flawless. I've read the other comments on here and felt compelled to share my experience I had today at Dramatics NYC on 5th Ave. I had rather long hair for a guy--a short ponytail. I was anxious about getting my hair cut, but was ready for a change. I requested Harley, whom I had selected off of their website because he had hair that looked like i wanted mine to look. Safe enough, right? Well, he also turned out to be the manager--doubly safe. He listened as I told him what I wanted and assured me that I'd be in great hands. Well, I was!! Harley wa thorough, precise, caring, thoughtful, and incredibly in touch with how I was doing. He continually asked me if I was okay, if I liked where he was going, if i was comfortable with the length or wanted to go shorter. An absolute dream. And the final product was perfect! Se x y, trimmed, with a great shape, and low maintenance! I had three people at dinner that night tell me that it's the best haircut I've ever had. I couldn't agree more!!!!
NO NO. I came here because a friend I work with told me they were great and a good price. I paid 175$ for higlights only. I told the woman I wanted to have a dark ash brown color with a few light sparkles in my hair, I brought a picture and everything. I also told her I hated red and my brown color always fades to red so i wanted her to do her best to cover it up. I left with a light brown hair and my light streaks were red orange and I looked like a zebra. On top of that they charge you 20$ to blowdry your hair so after paying 175 for something i completely did not want I was not about to pay an extra 20. I left with a WET head and an even worse hair color than before. I had to wait a week and the dry it all dark bown myself since i could not afford to have it fixed and take the chance of my hair looking like sickness fluid again. Yes my friends said the color was of "sickness" and another told me I looked like I had "Old" hair and i'm only 22. Stay away unless you dont care what about what your hair looks like
Stay Away!!!.
Can you get a good cut at Dramatics? Yes, but you may not get the cut you want, and in terms of customer service, you will not get what you bargained for. I went to Dramatics for a few years because it was all I could afford, but they pride themselves on nickle and diming their customers and all complaints are treated with disdain. If you do not confirm every step of the way the pricing for each service, they will rip you off. For instance, they advertise a walk in price, but if you call and say, "are you open, do you have any free stylists? I'll be right over." They consider that an appointment and charge you the extra fee for appointments (by the way, they do the same if you simply walk in and tell them you'll wait until someone becomes available). I've also had them give me to a more tenured stylist and charge me more for him/her without letting me know. I've been charged for a deep conditioner when the shampooer simply asked if I'd like a conditioner; and I've been charged $60 extra for drying my hair. When I complained about each of these "the manager" wasn't available and the receptionist told me she couldn't do anything for me, when they weren't being outrightly rude.
Additionally, you can expect the staff to make the experience fairly unpleasant as they complain about their working conditions. With the consistently terrible customer service, it is not a wonder that they do no better on employee relations. BTW: the reason they give all their stylists fake names is so that WHEN the stylist leaves you won't be able to follow them.
In the end, you can get a good cut, but you won't be saving any money and it will be a frustrating experience unless you just open your wallet and don't care about the charges. Go to a higher priced salon or an affordable salon where all services are baked into the price or they are up front about all fees and they'll treat you well.
