Yep, It's Good – I used to go here, and they gave me great Japanese Straight perms for a cheap price.
Though, my aunt went there, and said she couldn't get because her hair was damaged from coloring it too much.
I haven't been there in years, but I think about going back to them from time to time.
Great cut, head and back massage...and very inexpensive! – The cut cost $36 - and I got a lot taken off! Also - had a head and neck massage (which was inlcuded). The stylist was very nice, not pushy and did a great job (she did miss one piece of hair - but hey, the cut was under $40). I'm definitely going back!
Best Cut Under $50 – It is rare you can get an amazingly stylish AND cheap haircut these days in NYC, but it is possible at Sei Tomoko. My favorite location is E4th Street, even though I just read a bad review, they have always been really nice to me. It is true it is hard to get a appointment (call ahead-2 weeks) but if you go on their Cancellation List, I have gotten a cut same day to a few days later. I have also gotten my haircut by every single stylist there and they are all extremely talented and considerate of your sense of style and face shape. Shinobu is one of my favorites. I highly recommend going here, but even better bringing a friend or relative as a present because the hot towel and mini-massage are a nice treat.
Serious disappointment – I have been going to this salon for more than 7 years and have sent them dozens of clients. I used to go to their 4th Street salon when they started there. They used to be nice and professional and over the years have become really snooty and unaccomodating. I cancelled an appointment yesterday morning leaving a message on their machine and they called me this morning to tell me that they were charging me a cancellation fee because they just got the message. I asked them to check the time of the message, but they couldn't care. The woman insisted on my credit card details as though I was just going to hand that over. Good riddance!
Editorial Review – Japanese hair salon near Union Square performs straightening and spiral perming, as well as shiatsu scalp-and-shoulder massages.
AWESOME HAIRCUTTING EXPERIENCE – shampoo comes with relaxing neck massage, great cut and accomadating staff
EXCELLENT HAIR SHAMPOOERS(MASSAGE LIKE AND TAKES THEIR TIME/NO WATER SPLASHING/AND A HEATED TOWEL), HAIRSTYLISTS(WHAT PRECISION) AND THE VALUES IS SO WORTH IT! I COULDN'T BELIEVE HOW NICE THEY WERE. ITS A LONG KEPT SECRET. I'M A STUDENT SO I GOT A WONDERFUL DISCOUNT! :D
Learn some manners – My stylist here has been quite good, but the service otherwise leaves something to be desired. During my last haircut, I was asked to pay in the middle of the cut because the counter person had to close the register. This person seemed not to understand why I was upset that my serene experience was interrupted. Needless to say, I will not be returning, despite my skilled stylist.
Go here for hair care! – Went for a Japanese Straight Perm that leaves your hair ultra straight and shiny. The employee was super nice, taking the time to explain the complicated process to me. The prices are some of the best in town and everyone in that salon is always smiling. I would definately recommend it for the straight perm.
