This long-established sightseeing line boasts a fleet of 10 boats and a wide choice of tours--most offered year-round--on New York's waterways. For would-be thrill-seekers, "The Beast" is a heart-pounding but safe 30-minute speedboat trip with speakers blaring popular music. The irony is that native New Yorkers love the Circle Line at least as much as tourists. What better way to relax and get some perspective than to circle the island and see it all from afar? Plus, the uptown half of the trip passes shores you'd never believe were part of the big city -- little shanties that seem to belong thousands of miles away from the built-up nabes downtown. Best time is at sunset -- especially as you glide by the Statue of Liberty. Like the best Broadway -- it's hokey, but it works.
