In Short – Using the six-sided Star of David for inspiration, architect Kevin Roche designed the granite building to echo sixes throughout--from the foyer's hexagonal theater to the six-tiered ziggurat-styled roof. The ground-floor details Jewish life a century ago, while the top floor is devoted to contemporary history. Displays and video nooks comprise a large part of the collection, but relics like a Nazi flag and an ephemeral 1938 board game called "Jews Out" are also on view.

Great historical museum

by magicloop2009 at Citysearch

I like the surroundings and history, where you can learn. Very educational. Makes sense and has a point. Teaches you what these people went through in the holocaust, and how lucky you are to have yoru freedom today. You see how these people suffered. Even better than the one in Washington D.C. I cried mye yes out and went through three tissues when I was here with my school group.

  • Pros: Teaches you history about Jewsssss
  • Cons: You may get sad or even cry at worst

Public Museum or Private Concert Hall?

by sjen1999 at Citysearch

On a recent Sunday afternoon, I tried to visit this museum. It was not a Jewish holiday nor the Sabbath or any other holiday. It was just closed. There was no sign explaining why it was closed but a police officer said that the museum was closed for a private concert and he suggested that we come back another time. If this is a public, non-profit, tax-exempt institution, should/could it also be a private club?

  • Cons: randomly closed, out of the way
