Editorial Review for Bowling Green – by Ellen McDermott
In Short
One of the city's first parks was once used as a cattle market and then, appropriately, as a bowling green. The small plaza held a statue of King George III until the signing of the Declaration of Independence, when it was toppled and reportedly chopped up and melted down for ammunition. The park is popular with nearby financial workers at lunch, and with tourists for the prominent, imposing bronze statue, "The Charging Bull."

Insider Tips
Fun FactConstructed by sculptor Arturo di Modica,"The Charging Bull" was dropped off, without a permit, in front of the NYSE in December 1989. In the wake of public outcry over the impounding of the bull, he found a "temporary home" at Bowling Green; he has resided there since.
The ExtrasApropos to its proximity to the Financial District, the park offers free Wi-Fi access.
