I've been a member of NYSC for over 3 years. I switched club and asked my new club to register my gold membership. I have since been attending this new club for the past 18 months.
Recently they started charging me $40 extra claiming that I was going during peak hours to a different club than mine. It turns out they never made the switch to the new club I've been attending and started charging $7.5 extra per visit to my club. They won't refund the extra charge (bringing the total to over $110! and require that I sign a 1 year contract to switch over to the only club I've been attending for the past 18 months!
Shaddy business practices - terrible customer support - never-ending contract lock-ins

This emphasis on convenience extends to its signature circuit training program, the 22-minute Xpressline--not to mention the range of equipment, from Cybex and Icarian machines to Hammer Strength free weights. Other offerings include classes that focus on core-strengthening, flexibility and kickboxing.
great. nysc pool in the bronx was closed down according to the health dep sign for one week, i bet some kid took excreted in the pool and they didnt even bother emptying out the water, dont u love there one day sale signs they put up every single week and there prizes of the circular thing that u spin and u win a pencil or a free week at the gym i remember they used to offer freeze bees as prizes also
Expensive and Unwilling to Make Refunds for Their Mistakes.
[This review does not address this specific club. I had a passport membership and used a different location.]
I asked them to put my account on freeze, which meant I'd be charged $15 instead of almost $90. (The ability to freeze the account is a big part of their marketing efforts.) I received a confirmation.
About a month later, I realized that they had charged my account for $90. After a number of days and hours spent on the phone on hold or emailing people, I was told that I'd receive a full refund for the $90. I said I also wanted the $15 refunded because it had been their mistake. They resisted so much and it consumed so much of my time that I said I wanted to cancel.
Finally, it was agreed that I would get the full amount, although they would not refund it immediately (they take your money immediately from your credit card, but refuse to return it for four to six weeks even if the error is theirs.
Almost six weeks later, I received a check, but the $15 was still missing. I made more phone calls and sent more emails, to no avail.
I am contacting all relevant consumer protection agencies.
The clubs are clean, but very sparsely equipped for the the price. My local club was always crowded during peak hours.
Great Value, Great Gym. I've been going to this gym for four years now and I have not have a single complaint. My job requires me to travel all around the city so I can use any of the 20 or 30 gyms in the NYC as well as the Tri-state area. With accessibility to so many clubs, I have no reason not to work out. But my favorite has got to be City Hall. It's large, easily accessible by subway, has some great instructors and lots of modern equipment and offers a large variety of classes and activities to keep me motivated. I love this club!
