“you have to check out the events they put on - boxing, dj's, beer - it's a great place to meet new people!”
“It's a great place for anyone that wants to learn to box and/or just enjoy the workout.”
“Also I was not intimidated (being a woman) as it is friendly to both men and women of all experience levels (I did not have any) Overall a great experienece!”
“Great value too, especially for Manhattan!”
This place rocks!. This place rocks! I saw the add saying "Face it, you're gym sucks" and you know what,? Mine did! I was totally uninspired where I was before heading to Church Street. The trainers are great and the live DJ is an awesome touch.
Great Place. I've been to a couple of different boxing gym's in town and I've got to say that Church St. is head and shoulders above the rest. It is the real deal but there's no attitude. I thought that I might be intimidated training alongside competitive fighters but not at all. Great place & highly recommend it!.
Don't expect to actually box.
O.K what they are doing here is not truly 'boxing'. It is bag hitting, and training for conditioning. I was here for two months, in that time I saw 2 sparring matches. That is ridiculous. 'Boxing' requires two people, in a ring, sparring. What they do here is just bag punching.
The only people who do spar are those with personal boxing trainers who are not employed by the gym, they just pay to use the gym equipment and train their fighters. When I asked about sparring I was basically brushed off, and it became obvious that sparring was not part of the program their. A true boxing experience starts you off with rudimentary bag training then moves you slowly into sparring at an increasing pace.
Great place if you want a 'boxing workout'. If you want to actually box, look elsewhere.
Great gym in Lower Manhattan. I was looking for a gym to get back into shape, but I didn't want any anonymous chain either. I was slightly apprehensive to start with - boxing wasn't my thing. However, my reservations were totally unfounded - Church Street is a friendly place, the staff are great - knowledgeable too - and made me feel completely comfortable. I'd recommend the gym to anybody that wants something slightly different from treadmills and bikes or somebody who's looking for a great workout...this is it. Lots of trains nearby too, so you don't have to live/work nearby. Great value too, especially for Manhattan!!
super original and friendly and fun. Church Street gave me one of the best experiences of my life they trained me for a fight - everybody was helpful supportiv and friendly - love the atmosphere if you want to feel the real workout go to Church Street - definitely a important landmark in NYC
Train with the best.
Here is what you get:
1- Clean gym and locker areas
2- Excellent staff/trainers... always looking to help with a smile
3- Awesome members... also looking to help out any way they can
4- Friendly environment
5- Respect for personal goals... whether it be health/fitness... or a pro/amateur title
Here is what you won't see:
1- Sharks looking to make the quick buck
2- Bad attitudes from members/staff (you're not going to see any locker room fighting at this gym)
3- Un-knowledgeable staff (they are either pros or amateurs still looking to make the pros)
I've been at this gym for almost 3 years... and I ain't looking to go anywhere else.
Best Workout in New York, Period. i was intimidated when i first stepped in since i had no experience, but as soon as i started, that was all gone. the staff is incredible in their teaching, the amount of time they give you, their effort, and their attitude. huge range in terms of experience of people there, but all are so welcome. amazing workout; i am absolutely addicted.
You HAVE to try this place.
I had never tried boxing before I came to Church Street so I was a bit concerned that I might be a bit intimidated. I shouldn't have worried. The staff are amazing the membership program they have is really great for all levels - they have beginners right through to people fighting in the Golden Gloves - that will be me next year!!
Just join up!!
The BEST gym in NY!!!.
I LOVE Church street boxing gym. I have tried many gyms and workouts in NY (including many famous high-end gyms) and this gym is my favorite!!! Among many workouts I have tried, I found boxing/kickboxing is one of the most effective ways to tone/train your body. The program in this boxing gym is not like "group exercise classes" in boxing/kickboxing/cardio kickboxing at other standard gyms.
You will get individual attention & instruction from extremely professional staffs (they are former pro-boxers). Check out M+I program at church st boxing gym website. Boxing gym might sound a bit intimidating at first, but I found the atmosphere is very comfortable and friendly. This gym is for everyone (I'm a female, btw)!!!
I've never enjoyed my workout this much and now I am in the best shape in my life!!! This place is AWESOME!!!
Great workout!!. Love the kickboxing lessons especially. Friendly staff and management. Always leave feeling like I've gotten enough attention and a great workout.
