“throwing salsa on a dish does not make it Mexican, but this place which used to have some decent dishes, spinach tortilla pie, is nothing but glorified NYU food.”
“First off, I'd like to say that it's really not that difficult to make a good burrito.”
“Food mediocre, terrible service”
“thought it was worth it when I first started coming here several years ago, but now that prices have escalated over the years, Benny's is too expensive for what it offers.”

Benny's gives you the best bang for your buck. There are few places in NYC where you can get a meal for under $10. Benny's meets the bill with a large selection of Mexican food and they make delicious oversized margaritas. Beware of the large size. You get what you order.
Benny's falls by the wayside of old East Village. What happened to Benny's? I've been going there since the 1980s and it used to be a fun, inexpensive place to get some eats and hang out. Went there last night to find that their prices went up at least $1 each item and more in some cases! This is still the East Village! I know all these fancier restaurants are getting more, but you are still giving me beans, rice, and tortillas. Even the rise in the price of rice doesn't warrant this kind of price raising. I found Paquitos over on First Avenue and their prices are more reasonable. Sorry, Benny's, I loved you for 12+ years, but you're going in the "Remember when the East Village was cool and not full of the after-work crowds" list. It was fun while it lasted. Remember...you're still just making Mexican food. $10 for some beans, lettuce, salsa, and meat? Cummmmon!
Food mediocre, terrible service. Food are okay for the price, nothing mind blowing. Guacamole and salsa could be better. Margaritas are delicious. Poor service, it took me a while to get someone's attention and I had no idea who was my server because they were all lounging at the bar chit chatting. When I got the waitress attention, she seemed annoyed and has some attitude issue. Maybe I should just sit at the bar next time for a more efficient service......only if i ever go back again....
House of benny's rocks!!!. House of Benny's ROCKS!!! But.... where is Chrissy??? Benny's regulars for 8+ years. Food is average, but the service and ambiance is exceptional. Al, Chrissy (but we just found out that she is gone and we really miss her big time!!), Artimio, Dennis, Tina (now home witth bambino!) make this place feel like a friend's living room. Chit- chat's about what's happening in the hood overflow and the next thing you know, you're4 talking with the folks at the next table and it's 6 degrees of seperation...it's the East Village after all!!! We love this place...but we really, really miss Chrissy!!!
You call these nachos?!.
I was in the mood for some nachos last night, so I came across Benny's Burritos and decided to give it a try. It's a Mexican restaurant, which should theoretically have at least semi-decent tortilla chips, right?
Well, no. My friend and I order the "Nachos Todos," which cost over $10. We got a small plate with about 20 chips with PILES of sour cream, guac, and beans, etc. The chips were so stale, my friend almost broke his tooth. It was pathetic. I do NOT recommend this place, and for now on I will go elsewhere to sate my nachos cravings.
This isn't a burrito...it's a CREPE filled with flavorless ingredients!. First off, I'd like to say that it's really not that difficult to make a good burrito. What is up with New York and the crappy Mexican food? Benny's touts that their burritos are like those found in the Mission District of San Francisco (which has nothing but amazing mexican food). Well, Benny is a LIAR. I'm FROM San Francisco, and these pathetic excuses for burritos are nothing even close.
Blandest of the Bland. How would you like to pay $8+ for a diaper filled with flavorless muck? Way to go Benny's for overcharging for a dollar's worth of ingredients, and then not bothering to season it up so that at least I feel I've paid for something I can actually taste! How hard is it to make a burrito? Ask the people at El Maguey Y La Tuna on Houston how to make one. They know Mexican flavors.
bad american food. throwing salsa on a dish does not make it Mexican, but this place which used to have some decent dishes, spinach tortilla pie, is nothing but glorified NYU food.
If you like Burritos then this is your place. I've been here more times than I can count and it never disappoints. Now, obviously it's not gourmet Mexican food, but its tasty and the margaritas kick ass. I've spent many nights stumbling home from Benny's. You can't go wrong.
Best veggie burritos!. Non-cooking, vegetarian New Yorker's dream: Order a veggie burrito with a whole wheat tortilla, black beans, guacamole and all the fixins and you'll have the day's meals taken care of.
Just Average.
For a 13 buck burrito I was expecting a 5 inch thick MF of fillings, but it was flat. Granted it was 13 inches long (ok people get your mind outta the gutter), but it was flat.
Average place. There are better burrito joints on st marks.
