What Our Expert Scouts Say

Esperanto Latin Cuisine

It's hard to believe you're in NYC when dining here. The combination of live Latin music, gigantic ceiling fans, open windows and tangy, delicious tapas makes you wanna scream, "I love my life!"

Best night out in the east village!. We had a great time eating there the other night. Food was delicious, and the mojitos we drank were amazing, definitely the best I've had in the city. Plus, the waitress was really sweet and attentive to our table and they had a great band playing, so it really made for a great night out.

Reasonably priced, and very much recommended!

I like this place. but the service was SO SO SO SO BAD!. I came here for brunch. decent prices. it was beautifullllllllll weather outside so i loved the outdoor seating atmosphere. food tasted good. the only HORRIBLE thing was the service. our waiter sat us, took our order, and never came back. whenever i looked for him, i saw him socializing and laughing with people inside. so i had to get the attention of the waitress who kept shooting me dirty looks whenever i asked for water or another mimosa. its like pulling teeth asking for something. if you see a lady with long black hair, be extra nice. she looks like shes on PMS so maybe you'll have better luck on a diff day!

THE MUSIC IS AWESOME. The place is awesome. It's hard not to like the place, especially if you're a music lover. If you go when there are live musicians you are in for a treat. The service overall is okay. I went for a party of 20 on a sunday and the hostess was very accomodating. Do not go on Sundays after 3 because they will rush you out, rather wait for the 6-12 session. The food is delicious and the Mojitos are awesome!!!! I was happy

Delicious seafood stew. WOW. Tasty stuff. Long wait, cramped quarters, but totally worth the it. I've eaten Brazilian food in Brazil and this was equally good stuff.

Great food and Fun atmosphere. Great place for a date and also for large groups. The food is great, and cheap and there is always a wait. Make resverations if you don't want to wait 45 mins for a table. I have been there 2 times in 3 weeks and I have not seen that place empty around dinner time. There is always loud music so you'll have to speak up for people to hear you, and the inside is tight. But overall a great place on the LES.

Great Caipirinha. Went there Saturday night with friends. It was packed, we had reservations and got seated fairly quickly. We got a drink at the bar while we waited for our table, the bartender was a bit rude but I didn't let that ruin my night. Our waitress was absolutely wonderful which made our night much more enjoyable. The food, ah the food, it was absolutely fantastic! everything form the appetizer to the coconou flan in the end our night.

Great night!. I went to Esperanto on Thursday night and had a great time. It was packed so the hostess advised us to have drinks at the bar while we waited for a table. I had the passion fruit caipirihna and my friend had the kiwi caipirihna, and they were amazing (acutal fruit, not juice!). A few minutes later we got seated in the outside patio. The waitress was very knowledgable about the uncommon menu, and took a lot of time to advise us about how to order. We ended up getting the special Shrimp Pineapple dish and the Moqueca...both great advise from the waitress! As we were leaving, the sweet hostess made sure to say goodnight, ask us how everything was, and even gave us CDs of their music! Highly recommended!

Terrible service!. I had high hopes for this restaurant, but I was sorely disappointed. When I arrived with my party, they refused to seat us on the terrace though it was nearly empty. They then took 20 minutes to take our appetizer order. While the food is a passable, it is not close to authentic Brazilian cooking (both my dining companions and I have lived in Brazil). Our entrees took another 30 minutes to arrive once our appetizers were cleared. We had to ask four times for the most basic things like water and bread. We asked several times for our check. While we were waiting for the check--which took another 20 minutes to arrive--the hostess came over to ask us to hurry up so she could seat another party. When we told her we had already asked for the check several times because one of our friends felt sick in the stifling heat (he had recently undergone chemotherapy, which I tried to mention discreetly to the hostess), she asked us to leave. Once we got the check, we left immediately, without comment. I would never go back here.
