The Scene
Named after the Moroccan port where Orson Welles filmed parts of his "Othello," this darkly lit, vividly painted couscous cafe manages to evoke both North Africa and the East Village. The crowd dresses with a studied grunginess that wouldn't be out of place in Tangiers.

The Food
All the appetizers are excellent here, as good and often better than at other more expensive Moroccan restaurants around town. Ditto the couscous, which comes with large servings of aromatic vegetables and appropriately spicy paste. And great brunch and sidewalk tables make a seat hard to find on weekend mornings.

This is a perfect brunch spot in the heart of the East village. The iced tea is a must and the french toast is to die for!

This is my favorite pace to get Moroccan food. It's a great place for a date - the restaurant's ambiance is nice, the staff there are very genuine and friendly, and best of all the food is delicious as a very affordable price. Brunch is always popular here too - there's a wait, but it's worth it. It's a gem in the East Village, and the seating outside represents what a true NYC restaurant is like.

Literally discovered this while walking around reading menus after having dinner in the neighborhood. Vowed to check it out and on a recent evening after a stressful day of work, we decided to give it a whirl. Walked in w/o res. and it turned out to be just the right timing. Got a table for two near the very busy bar. 5 minutes later the line for tables was out the door! Food, WOW, it was great, enjoyed every bite. My wife had wonderful lamb chops from the specials and I had lamb tagine! Both were excellent, as was our appetizer of halumi cheese. Can't wait to go back, our server was friendly, efficient and thorough! Just about a perfect end to a stressful day!
