Bar On A has lots of names, BOA bar, Barona, or just Bar On A, but no matter what you call it, a lot of people call it home, and for good reason. It's a great mix of locals, regulars, and new combers, both downtown people and those from nearby Brooklyn. Bar On A is really close to the L Train 1st Ave stop. The owners are old NY hippies and the environment reflects that: nice and easy, but with energy. The music, which apparently is dependent on the bartender, is a great mix of jazz, rock, new wave, a little hip-hop, and lots of edge. There are two venues at Bar On A. When you walk in, you'll see a bar. It's red, and dark and cozy. Lots of bar space and tables and stools and all that. But then on the other side, you'll see a stage, tables, comfy couches, and the kind of space that you'll want to have a birthday or private party in. So it's really two vibes in one. The food is a few notches above bar fare and served pretty quickly. They have edamame and Japanese dishes as well as nachos. Love the variety! Speaking of which, lots of wine, beer choices here. A few American big brews like Bud and Bud Light, but also unique stuff like Stella, Raderberger, and Coney Island, and something from Long Island called Toasted Lager (appropriately named). Once I went on a Sunday and they had a Burlesque show which I guess is every Sunday. It was crazy fun. They have a website (nycbarona dot com) with some video, drink menu, etc. Check 'em out, you'll have a blast here. Lots of groups meet here to begin or end their night, it's kind of the perfect in between bar for everything.

A cozy place to meet up with friends or your special someone. Great mix of music from jazz to hip hop to rock and roll. Food was great and super cheap for the city. Overall a nice evening.
