Editorial Review for The Gym – by Drew Pisarra
The Scene
With its white-leather workout benches, sleek flat-screen TVs, glass-encased fitness studio, lemon-yellow stationary bikes and sunshine-orange walls, The Gym sure looks great. Equally impressive is how this thoughtfulness extends to equipment selection. Along with treadmills, various presses and pulleys, and a full line of free weights, more hard-to-find exercise machines allow members to target the oft-forgotten tibialis anterior (the shin muscle) or to strengthen the rotator cuffs. Plus, the membership cap means lines are infinitely unlikely.
The Workout
The same level of creativity goes into the center's workout programs. Classes with catchy names such as Action!, Gym Recess and Integrity incorporate jumping, kickboxing, cycling and stationary exercises for a complete workout. Personal coaches help members map out fitness goals, set up programs and provide nutritional counseling. Timely workout options, such a class to get skiers and snowboarders in shape, keep the gym's programs feeling fresh.

This place stinks now! What happened to the good old days when I could slip Wyl a few hundred bucks under the table for a 1 year comp. membership, or I could waive the 30-day cancellation policy and end my membership as of last week. These a**holes that were left in charge actually charge us members for water and gatorade, and stuff that we should get for free. If I were a complete idiot I would say that 5-Star managed to run a gym that was making so so so much money as of January, into the ground within a matter of months. But I am not a complete idiot and I know that that is economically impossible. Even Enron crashed over a longer period of time. But again, boo-hoo on the gym being run by managers instead of it's member, like the good old days. Hey Wyl or Rocco, I've got $400 burning a hole in my pocket, what can you guys do for me?
Pros: Run by managers
Cons: Not run by members

The so called manager, Malick, convinced us to leave Equinox to go to the gym. He said the owner would take care of us. The only one that was taken care of was him. I guess we can say he is whipped. Now the place is going out of business and he is not giving us back the money that we invested in the equipment that we helped buy. My lawyer will be all over this. He refused to pay the staff and pay taxes.
