Tips for Gramercy Park Optical Svc

This place is a scam. I came for a eye exam and specifically said I wanted a checkup because my insurance covered 1 per year.

They ended up taking a bunch of tests without telling me they were extra or asking if I wanted them done and then charged me for them. One of them was a "prescription evaluation" for $60 when I don't even need glasses/contacts! They tried to charge me $119, I ended up paying $60, but it should have only been $20. Would definitely not go back.

Constant compliments on frames they picked for me!. I already had my prescription, but the frames I had chosen elsewhere were rather ordinary. I wanted to feel more attractive when wearing my glasses. The extremely experienced optician assisted me not only in selecting frames that flatter my face so much I constantly get asked where I bought them, but have also improved the quality of my vision! The size and shape of the lenses is better adapted to my prescription, affording me an expanded visual field for distance, intermediate, and reading. The frames were not cheap, but their fit, quality. and beauty are worth every penny. I would never have found them without their guidance.

contact specialists, but great frames/help, too. I've been seeing Dr. Zimmerman for years, and have occasionally seen other opticians as well here. I wear contacts, and he was recommended as a contact specialist and is certainly knowledgeable and helpful in that area. They run all the tests to be sure that your eyes are healthy and have upgraded equipment over the years as new, more accurate tests have become available -- with no extra cost to the consumer. I have experience with glasses fittings with them as well, as does my husband (who doesn't wear contacts), and the help I've gotten choosing flattering new frames (whatever budget I presented) was stellar. I wouldn't have thought to try shapes that they recommended that turned out to be so flattering, I've sometimes worn glasses over contacts!

Loved my experience here!. Surprised to see any bad things as my experience was so good.

Dr. Zimmerman couldn't have been nicer and the ladies there were so much fun to pick out frames with.

Got my glasses last week and I see and look great.

great for contacts. i'm getting married soon and decided i didnt want to walk down the isle with glasses so came to gramercy park optical to try contacts. I was pretty nervous because i'm kind of freaked out about my eyes.. but it was all so surprisingly easy. i saw dr. frohofer (sp?) she was so cool and nice, she suggested daily disposables as the easist option for me..which they definitely are.. after my exam.. which was really thorough she even took these pictures of the inside of my eye and showed them to me, one of the staff taught me how to put the contacts in and out, she was sooooo patient with me :).. i left with a bunch of trials... And I love seeing without glasses!! its so great...i cant believe what i've been missing...i came back for one follow just to check and see how things were.. I love my contacts!!!

Happy Patient. I have been going to Gramercy park optical for about 4 years and have always had a great exam. I wanted to comment because I have always had great service from the staff and perfect prescriptions for my contacts. Dr. Zimmerman is exceptionally thorough and solved my problems with contacts that I had before going there.

I can't believe these reviews, because my friends who go there, and I have always been very happy with our glasses and contacts.

I highly recommend.

Completely Disatisfied. We recently took our 7 year old daughter to Gramercy Park Optical for an eye exam and new glasses. Firstly, Dr. Fronhofer was rude and abrupt with my other child while my daughter was getting an examination. The counter help was very persuasive in buying designer frames and not more durable frames, after all the patient is only 7. We were informed that the glasses were available for pick up, and we headed into Manhattan from Brooklyn to get them. Unfortunately, one of the lenses fell out of the frame less than a hour after we picked them up. My oldest daughter was extremely upset at how things were done and more upset that her younger sister was crying that she "broke" her very expensive new glasses. Save your money, and find a place where children are treated properly, and the sale of a pair of "expensive" glasses is not the primary objective. Hated it!!!

Incompetent. While the Doctor is good and a honest man, his counter help are incompetent. They set my pupil diameter width off by 11%. Had to be redone. Then for another prescription the woman at the counter insisted the lens that I could not see out of was okay. The Doctor confirmed later it was flawed, contrary to the shop-attendant at the counter. He dd have the lens remade.

Horrible Customer Service. The front desk receptionists have poor communication skills.
