The Scene – Most Ballys stick to the basics for their design. Televisions broadcast silently above multiple rows of cardio machines; mirrored walls act as the primary decorative components. But thanks to high-energy television ads and low-impact membership premiums, this national fitness chain has steadily attracted a clientele bent on saving money while losing weight or gaining muscle. – – The Workout – Using fairly standard strength-training equipment and/or racks well-stocked with free weights, the best of the trainers here, who are classified at four different…

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE

by Atomic77

STAY AWAY UNLESS YOU DON'T PLAN TO CANCEL EVER!!!

ONE STAR RATING IS TOO HIGH FOR THIS BUSINESS!!

I joined Bally @ Englewood Cliffs, NJ with my wife on March of 2011. The sales person that helped us, ALLAN RAMIREZ was very swift and helpful to get us signed up. At the time, he told us we could bring a cancellation letter to him and he would take care of it. A few weeks ago we went to the location and we were told we could ONLY cancel in writing.

I called customer support today and spent over 30 minutes trying to get a representative on the line, which you can only do by asking to sign up or add a member.

The rep that picked the line "LUIS UGALDE" told me that even though I was the husband and the account buyer/payer, we had to send a SEPARATE CERTIFIED LETTERS EACH. He even said to mail to a different address other than the one on the contract.

I called my local Bally to corroborate the address. The "manager" there "ALEXIS HERNANDEZ" said he didn't have the address and that I should call customer service. What kind of manager can't give you this kind of information??? This guy even put me on hold every two minutes, then pick the line as if he didn't know who I was or what I was talking about.

THEY ARE ALL TRAIN VERY WELL TO GIVE YOU THE TURN AROUND SO YOU DESIST ON CANCELLING!

BEWARE!! STAY AWAY, YOU WILL THANK ME!!

Not good

by nick2010

Great advertisements and talks prior to enrollment, but completely sucks once you enroll. Remember to read word by word your contract, and after going through the contract for a week, then enroll if you are ok with conditions. Very simple though they say 10 day cancellation notice, it actually requires 2 month prior notice.

1. Lot of hidden costs and clauses

2. Inconvenient cancellation/termination process

3. Not suitable for personal work-out plan unless you hire a personal trainer.

4. There is bosu ball in personal training area but not available to members.

5. Nice resistance ball in personal training area but small and bad ones for members.

6. If you just want to do junk weight lifts and inapropriate cardio, this is the perfect place.

Machines break constantly!

by emswal

I joined Bally's for the bargain, but got more trouble than it was worth! The machines here break down more than at any other gym I've tried. Even the functioning ones are OLD and far-from-perfect. Free weights are constistently off the racks and scattered around the facility (not that there are many to begin with). The floor in the classroom has been unstable and taped off in sections for months now. DON'T JOIN!!!

Any other gym would be better

by nikkikaplan

Be careful when you sign a membership agreement for this gym!! They'll do anything to rope you into signing a three year contract. This gym has no amenities (no towels, hair dryer, etc) and the class instructors (during the one or two classes that they do offer) are horrible--always late and many times condescending and rude. At busy times you have to wait in line to stretch. Finally, I have found the clientel to be rude and obnoxious.

Unless this gym is right next door to your apartment, look elsewhere. The equipment's fine, but everything else is a huge hassel.

  • Pros: lots of machines, big weight room
  • Cons: small stretch area, too few classes, no amenities
