What People Are Saying About Paul Smith

The Scene – Pink walls--in a store that's full of men's clothing? Welcome to the world of Paul Smith, where the consummately British designer injects seemingly stodgy goods (men's suits and other tailored merch) with a heavy but tasteful dose of fun. – Classic, narrowly cut suits are the real draw, in everything from dark navy pinstripes to a shiny tobacco sharkskin. Pair one with a groovy button-down shirt in just about any color of the rainbow--stripes, checks or solids--add a tie, and you're dressed for the big event. – –

- The Extras:
- Check out the divine selection of gifts. There's a tin lighter shaped like a fish, scads of hip books ("Affluenza," funnily enough, among them), cashmere mufflers and Paul Smith's own tableware (adorned with the same stripes that appear on the store's bags).

Worst service I've had in New York.
by joneamon
I bought two items today in the 5th Avenue store this afternoon. Before purchasing I asked the sales guy whether both items were on sale (there are currently signs all over the store saying up to 30% off). I was told yes. Then he processed my credit card, put the items in a bag, and gave me the receipt. I looked at the receipt and noticed that only one item had a discount. When I queried this, he just looked annoyed, and it turned out that there was no discount. No explanation or apology, just asked me if i wanted the item or not, that he could refund my money.
I went back home (30 minutes distance) and when I took one of the items out of the bag, I realised that he had forgotten to remove a large plastic and metal electronic tag! I had to return to the store - 30 minutes - and the same guy was still at the cash desk. I pointed out to him that he had forgotten to remove the tag and he mumbled a rather disinterested sorry, without even looking me in the eyes, and removed the tag. I said that this wasn't really good service and he answered "I said I'm sorry". Not very convincingly.
Such a shame - nice things here but this guy doesn't seem to know the meaning of good service!
- Pros: Nice things to buy.
- Cons: Why bother when the service is so bad?
Nice style, unique fabrics

Very interesting collection of men's clothing - not the usual boring, 'same as everthing' items. I love the surprise fabric colors and trims. The clothes are well-made and my suits from here have lasted a long time, and surprisingly, though somewhat highfashion, haven't gone out of style.
- Pros: Great fabrics and colors
- Cons: somewhat pricey
Who are these salespeople???
by missnubbins
The salespeople there are completely ridiculous- they are insane- they all have these attitudes like they couldn't be bothered- but hey the jokes on them- they are the ones working inside a clothing store on a beautiful Saturday afternoon...HAHAHAHA
- Pros: clothes
- Cons: salespeople
Worst Service Ever

I love Paul Smith, and usually buy his clothes and accessories at Barney's or Saks. After the horrible treatment I received at his flagship store, however, I will never buy any of his products again. I actually stood at the register with an armload of merchandise I wanted to buy for about five minutes while the prissy staff talked to each other and gave me dirty looks. I even called the company's corporate headquarters and never got a call back. Needless to say, I left the items on the counter and walked out. If you need Paul Smith, get it at a department store.
- Pros: Clothes, Accessories
- Cons: Staff, Bad Service, Bad Attitude
Great Clothes, Lousy Staff

I agree completely with the other posters here.
Paul Smith's clothes are straight up incredible; one of the top men's designers in the world. I absolutely love the items in his stores.
However, shopping at this Manhattan store is truly a trying experience because I've simply never met such unhelpful and downright rude sales staff in an NYC retail store outside of Chinatown. They will literally turn and walk away from you if they sense they won't be selling you five suits. It's a shame because there are glorious items inside.
- Pros: Style, Style, Style
- Cons: Rude sales staff, Pricey
