“Very friendly and warm atmosphere.”
“Dessert was also wonderful especially when paired with a wonderful desert wine that our waiter also helped select.”
“My waiter was friendly and helped us choose an excellent wine, and the steaks we ordered were perfect.”
“Our raw bar selection was good and fresh and the potatoes, spinach and mushrooms were the perfect compliment for a faboulous dinner.”
“The menu is pricey but the atmospere is from busines to casual.”
“No doubt the food is pricey but for that special occasion its a good place to celebrate.”
“don't think I will be back, there are alot of other "Great Steakhouses" in better parts of Manhattan.”
“The service was terrific--we were not rushed at all.”
“Between the attractive hostess who greeted us at the door and the extremely friendly waiter who served us, it made the high prices worth it.”
“Table behind us got terrible service- they dropped a steak and it had already taken a long time coming out- ours was fine but service seems variable at best.”
Got my steak wrong 3x. I had to send my steak back 3 times. When they finally got it right, the other people in my party were almost done their meal. I was really let down by this place.
OUR FIRST VISIT!.
THIS WAS MY FIRST VISIT TO THIS NY LANDMARK. THE ATMOSPHERE IS GREAT AND THE SERVICE IS BEYOND EXCEPTIONAL!
MY ONLY GRIPES WERE THAT THE COFFEE WAS BAD AND THE DRINK PRICES WERE A BIT ON THE "STEEP" SIDE. (A MODEST SIZED MARGARITA COSTS $17/SCOTCH ON ICE WAS ABOUT THE SAME)
THIS DIDN'T BOTHER ME HOWEVER IT IRRITATED MY WIFE. I WAS THEIR SOLELY FOR THE EXPERIENCE.
I TOLD HER TO ORDER THE FAMOUS $41 KOBE HAMBURGER BECAUSE SHE DOESN'T LIKE STEAK. IT WAS VERY BLAND AND EXTREMELY LARGE ESPECIALLY FOR ONE PERSON. IT WAS DEFINITELY SOMETHING THAT WOULD NOT APPEAL TO THE AVERAGE PERSON. YOU WOULD HAVE TO BE A "BEEF CONNOISSEUR" TO RESPECT IT'S UNUSUAL QUALITY.
THE SHRIMP COCKTAILS WERE ENORMOUS. I LOVED IT. I NEVER HAD A SHRIMP THAT LARGE IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. I ORDERED THE 18 OUNCE NY SIRLOIN. IT WAS PERFECT.
OVERALL WE HAD A FABULOUS TIME. THE WAITER WAS AMIABLE AND VERY COURTEOUS.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND OLD HOMESTEAD TO ALL WHO HAVE A YEARNING FOR A FINE NY DINING EXPERIENCE!
excellent. great experience , wonderful staff plus one of the hottest location in town

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION ends with DEATH THREAT !!!.
Last night I took a friend/business associate out for his birthday at the Old Homestead.
We had our salad course and stepped out for a smoke. While we were outside, one of the restaurant employees came out and called us in when our steaks were ready. Once we finished our steaks, we stepped out for another smoke.
While we were outside, our waiter came out and presented us with the bill. I told him that we still intended on having desert. He told me that they have had issues with people running out on checks and asked me for my credit card. I give it to him and he went back inside. The manager, Michael D. Florea, then poked his head out of the front door and told us, in classic Soup Nazi style, that they will not serve us desert because the restaurant is closed. It was only 11:10 p.m. at this time and the meatpacking district was obviously in full swing, and there were certainly plenty of people still eating inside the restaurant.
Anyway, this prompted the exchange of some choice words and when we went back to our table we discovered that our table had been cleared. Our unfinished Martinis were gone. My friend’s jacket, which he left at the table, had been moved closer to the exit door.
I paid the bill. We walked out of the restaurant, with the manager and waiter closely behind. We then continued our conversation regarding the manager’s inappropriate behavior outside.
This is where the situation got a bit bizarre.
Out comes a guy who obviously fancies himself a wise-guy. He is wearing an oversized gold chain and cross over his shirt and death in his eyes. The manager and waiter, who react as if this guy is the grim reaper himself, try to convince him to go back inside as if his mere presence means certain death. The “muscle” proceeds to tell us that he will make us “disappear.”
I am a New York City attorney and had been coming to this place for about 15 years and never knew that this was some sort of mob enterprise.
Anyway, a word to the wise: Be careful when you send back that overcooked steak, for it may be the last thing you do!
And thank you, Mr. Florea, for a ruined evening.
OK, but a definite tourist trap.
I knew something was amiss when the most exotic domestic beer on the list was Coors Light. In a country blessed with a fantastic array of micro-brews, this is nothing short of a travesty. So a selection from the fairly limited wine list was the go, and it was not a bad drop all things considered.
The ladies in our party were a bit overwhelmed by the size of the steaks on the menu, this is certainly not an eatery for the faint of heart. I selected the Tuna Sashimi to start, followed by the 34oz Rib Eye (yup, nearly a Kilo). The Tuna was great, though more pepper seared than sashimi, and the steak was perfectly cooked, if lacking slightly in fat.
It was the service that really let the place down. One main course arrived a full 17 minutes after the rest had been delivered and the waiter had disappeared without a trace. I understand that mistakes happen, but when they do it's better to fess up, apologise and explain the dish is on the way, not just disappear leaving the rest of us wondering whether or not we should start. Not even a free coffee was offered by way of compensation, disappointing given this place charges top dollar.
Similarly, they lost points on the basics, plates were removed before all diners were finished and not once were our wine glasses refilled, it felt more amateur cafe than fine diner.
We tipped because we had to, certainly not because we wanted to. Don't be suckered in by the hype, NYC has many better options available.
Best Lunch Ever!!!. I just had one of THE best sandwich I've ever had. I've wanted to had dinner at Old Homestead for a long time, but just haven't made it happen. However, next best thing...lunch...was very good. Order the BLT Crab Cake Sandwich with Kobe bacon! I've never had anything like it. Highly Recommended...
Best Shrimp Cocktail in USA.
I love the Old Homestead not just for their steaks but also for their Shrimp Cocktail. The size and flavor of their seaford platter shrimp are just out of this world. They are rthe largest I have ever been served and are just outstanding.
I recommend the bone-in filet mignon.
Very friendly and warm atmosphere. Hubby had the Kobe Burger and devoured only 1/2, it was massive and equal to probably 4 regular burgers. The chipotle ketchup is great...although you dont need to put anything on the burger. The lil tater tots that come on the side are by far the bestest!
I had the sesame crused ahi tuna and loveeeee it! So fresh and delicious, served over juilienned veggies.
For sde dishes we had truffle mac & cheese...which was so rich and delicious. The sweet potato wedges were just like mom made at home for Thanksgiving!
Oh and cant forget the ice cream and cheesecake to end off a great meal...decadent and yummy!
Where is the service?. The place looks great, the food was consistent but the service was awful. I was there several times over the summer and it appeared as if they had turned the corner on their service issues. Lets hope it was just a bad night because the location is great the the place has been wonderfully transformed physically.
