Your Place.... Please Please Please go try this place. I am hands down saying, I had the best meal of my life here. Everything from the atmosphere, specialty drinks, unique menu, amazing food and service was right on. I have never seen such a flavorful menu with items I have never heard of or things that were paired together so well. The menu was impeccable but to be honest I can't even remember the unique Ingredience that were in my pork tenderloin but I do remember the chocolate mousse cake . Everyone in the restaurant seemed to be puckering their lips with astonishment. I will be counting the days when I can eat here again.

I was embarrassed by my decision to take friends there for brunch.. I have always had pleasant experiences at North Square - decent food, nice atmosphere, etc. However, all of that changed on Sunday 9/21/2008. With a few friends, I arrived for a 12:30 PM brunch reservation. The hostess was most friendly and we were soon seated. However, our waiter barely paid us any attention. After getting our first cups of juice and coffee, it was nearly impossible to get a refill. We asked for a few items to be brought out early to nosh - even after asking multiple times, most of the appetizer items were either forgotten or brought out at the same time as the meal. And then there was the food... the pumpkin pancakes were barely palatable. The challah french toast was literally a few pieces of soggy bread. The only redeeming parts of the meal were the bacon, the bagel and cream cheese, the potatoes, and the fruit salad (basically things that just required minimum preparation). I have never had such a bad brunch experience in NYC - whether this was just an off-day or it is indicative of a larger problem at North Square, I cannot say. I can say that I will never go back there again. When our waiter finally arrived with the bill, I had to remind him which items, which were listed on the bill, never made it to our table.

Great Wine List. Wow. I met a friend here for oysters and drinks recently and we ended up staying the whole night. We sat at the bar, we had cocktails, wine, oysters, and then decided to try a couple of entrees too. The thing that compelled me to write a review is that I've been here before. I used to attend NYU, it's in the neighborhood and was always a good work horse type of spot for a bar. Dropping in for the first time in a looonnnggg time, I've noticed some changes...for the better. Service has stepped it up big time and the wine list is so much more thoughtful, affordable and interesting.

Great brunch food. Delicious brunch food. Had the best lobster crab cakes. Very cozy setting, but the restaurant is much bigger than yoiu think.

Awesome!. Most people who know me, know that my two favorite food groups are oysters and champagne. I couldn't live without either one. However, that being said I recently was talked into a cocktail with my oysters a "bronx bomber" which was a delicious and spicy concoction of rum and ginger (like a dark and stormy for the summertime). I happened to end up with rare night off from work and decided to treat myself to dinner at the bar at North Square. I had never been before. It was a perfect night. I had my cocktail with my oysters...they also had several types of oysters that I had never had before. Then, I ordered the sausage plate. They say it's for two but I made a fabulous meal out of it for myself. I had this with a riesling that was excellent. The whole wine list was priced very fair. There is also a pretty ecclectic list of wines by the glass and some tasty bargains by the bottle. When the rain started to pour down, the manager helped me get a cab and sent me off with an umbrella that had been left behind. Thanks to all for a great night! I will definitely be back as I just found out that they have an oyster happy hour with a glass of muscadet (a perfect pairing).

Five stars!. The bf & I treated ourselves to a fantastic meal at Washington Square Hotel's own North Square, a quaint and friendly below-the-sidewalk eatery in Greenwich Village, across from Washington Square Park. (North Square also boasts a great Jazz Brunch every Sunday afternoon.

Having been to some of the greatest restaurants in NYC, we were delightfully impressed with the surprising simplicity and unpretentiousness of North Square. It was, quite frankly, one of the best meals and restaurant experiences we've had in quite some time. If we could afford it, wed eat there once a week. But the one night spent in the quaint and friendly restaurant satisfied us just fine. Though tiny and narrow as far as square footage goes, North Square was anything but cramped, and the Art Deco decor of the restaurant suited the mood just perfectly: warm wood, cushioned banquettes and chairs, art-lined walls, and dim lighting.

We began our dinner by sharing an appetizer of tender, but crispy Grilled Marinated Shrimp over Lentil Cake (tasted so much better than it sounded) with a fresh mix of watercress, grape tomatoes, feta cheese, and chipotle creme fraiche. For our entrees, we had Rackof Lamb, cooked to perfection, and served with honey-glazed vegetables, chive mashed potatoes (they were green!), and rosemary lamb jus and the melt-in-your-mouth Tortilla-Crusted Snapper, which was served over a soft pile of braised leeks and endive, with a roasted corn "flan" and pear beurre blanc. Decadent! Dessert was a Pecan Pie Triangle with Chocolate Sorbet. A great touch was that our coffee and tea were served in individual Bodum presses. How European!

The secret of Washington Sq. Park!. Went to North Square on a date last night. I neglected to read the "caters to an older crowd" on the profile page, so was taken aback by the number of over 50s patrons. Though I understand why it's appealing to the older crowd, why isn't it more popular with those in their 20s and 30s?

Seafood entrees were excellent and was presented noticably well. The desert special was to die for. The service was excellent. I can't believe I hadn't heard about it from friends. I guess I'll be the one to circulate the good news!

In a demure spot facing Washington Square, impressive American cooking with attention to detail.. The Scene
North Square's discreet, sedate decor appeals to the largley older crowd occupying the dining room whilst a younger set parties in the back bar. The lowish ceiling and garden-apartment view of passing feet has claustrophobic potential, but warmth of service and environs makes it cozy instead.

The Food
The kitchen here loves to impress with cleverly combined, carefully wrought dishes. A chopped salad, incorporating fresh beans, tomatoes, enoki mushrooms, cress and quail eggs is beautifully presented and excitingly complex. A platter of merguez and linguica sausages with local sheep's cheese is likewise handsomely composed and dazzlingly flavorful. Filet of snapper, coated in browned tortilla bits and accompanied by a surprisingly light corn flan, is delicious as well. Only an arid couscous side and an alarmingly underdone pork chop--though delicious on a second attempt--fall short. A perfect pistachio creme brulee with embedded raspberries makes a fine dessert.

Spot on!. This is a lovely little restaurant - traditional decor and comfortable surroundings. I would say it's suitable for a romantic date or quiet family meal, as there is no bar so the atmosphere is a little quiet. The foods is excellent - not too fancy, plenty of choice and very reasonably priced. The service is spot on - the wait staff give just the right amount of attention without fussing too much. One of the good things about this restaurant is that you can order a la carte, making it perfect for those watching cals or carbs! We loved it and will be back soon.
