In Short – Moran's is a traditionally styled Old-World Irish tavern, located in a circa 1834 building decorated in dark wood, with tin ceilings, fireplaces and four dining rooms. The kitchen sticks to classics: steamed clams, raw oysters, boiled lobsters, porterhouse steaks, rack of lamb in red wine sauce and shrimp scampi. There is also a choice of pastas, including linguine Moran, with clams, mussels, shrimp and scallops in a garlic and white wine sauce.

Craving for more
by laurakingsley91 at Citysearch
The best steak I had ever eaten. It was on this restaurant. I could not forget that time. It was in the evening, I really hungry during that night and I was craving for a steak. The first choice I had in mind was Moran's Restaurant right away.
The place is so classical. I really liked the theme that was set up on the restaurant. It's like an Old fashioned restaurant. And I really liked it.
But most of all, what I like most is the steak. It's just simply fantastic. It was cooked to the finest. And now I am craving for more.
Exceptional wedding reception location
by Yvonne Golby at Citysearch
Moran’s was a perfect venue for our wedding reception for many reasons: it has a friendly atmosphere, excellent food and drink, extremely friendly staff and the best event coordinator/manager you could wish for, Tom Murphy.
From the moment we first met Tom I think I knew that Moran’s was where I wanted to hold our wedding reception. Tom is very straight talking, none of the typical NYC “fluff” and he made it clear very early on that he would have everything covered on the wedding day and in safe hands. Everytime we met Tom he was very professional, courteous and although he’s obviously a very busy man, he fit us in even when we turned up unannounced.
Over the months we worked with Tom on our wedding, he showed flexibility (we changed the table arrangement many times and completed the reception in a rather odd order), willingness to go above and beyond (he entertained specific requests for Australian wine and a specific signature cocktail from Australia) and shared his experience which allowed us to develop, with him, the best reception we would have hoped for (in fact better!).
As the wedding drew closer, Tom kindly allowed us to store items at Moran’s (we made our own centerpieces, place names etc) and he also dealt with enquiries from other members of the wedding party such as my Mum! Tom was even gracious enough to work with our wedding day planner and ensure that they fulfilled their duties as well.
On the day of the wedding Tom and his staff were beyond wonderful. Everyone was looked after extremely well and he even had a team charged with completing our photo guest book for us - way beyond the call of duty, but immensely appreciated. He ran everything like clockwork, dealt with anything thrown his way (we had a birthday cake to present and had to present it earlier than expected - the cake Moran’s produced was amazing) and all our guests kept commenting on how much they enjoyed the food and location of the reception.
Looking back on our wedding day now, I still find it astounding that we were able to find a reception location in the middle of Manhattan, at an extremely reasonable price and with such a great team of people (and great food!).
I can’t recommend Moran’s to anyone enough - Tom and his staff go above and beyond what you would expect and it’s because of their efforts that our wedding reception was the amazing success it was. Truly exceptional.

Last night my boyrfriend and I had dinner at Moran's and it was spectacular!
The food was incredible for such reasonable prices and the service was warm, friendly and extremely attentive.
The maganer as well as the waitress made us feel so welcome and gave us a beautiful seat next to the fireplace and waterford crystal. Absolutely beautiful decor. Definitley worth your visit!
Great place for a wedding
by smoothdude at Citysearch
I recently photographed a beautiful wedding at Moran's and have to say I was really impressed with the room and the overall feel of the place. The back room is made for weddings and everything looked beautiful. The food was really outstanding and the staff was very pleasant to work with. I'd highly recommend it for weddings under 100 people (or however many they are suited for). You can view some of my photos through my blog which can be seen at danielkrieger(dot)com
- Pros: beautiful private room, great food, excellent service
- Cons: not really made for super large weddings
A Chelsea Gem

My wife and I were looking for a place to get a drink after seeing a play nearby. We are not from NYC so we weren't expecting much. As we were walking by this quaint restaurant, we noticed a fireplace in the window. Being the middle of winter we were immediately drawn in.
Well, once we walked in, we were immediately greeted and had our coats taken and hung up. We were going to sit at the bar and just have a drink, but once you smell the food being cooked in the kitchen (which is open for all to see) you have no choice but to eat. And eat we did.
My wife and I both shared the fried Zucchini which is shoestring style. Light crispy and VERY addicting. We also shared the Mac and Cheese which is TO DIE FOR. As we weren't that hungry after all that, we then shared the Grilled Seafood. Which was so delicious and fresh. Lobster tail, Scallops,Salmon and Shrimp. All of my favorites.
We will definitely be coming back. Possibly just to eat here!
- Pros: AMAZING Staff and food, REAL fireplace
- Cons: none
