Very Tasty

My girlfriends went to Negril this past weekend and we had a great experience. The food tasted great and the atmosphere was festive and lively. The seating is kind of tight for big parties but it was not that bad. Negril offers many classic carribean dishes and the serving staff was pleasant and accomodating. I would reccomend to others and return myself
ROTI ROTI ROTI!!!!
by goldenticket7
Last year this same time, I had my first Roti, on Barbados?s Accra beach....this curried goat, rolled up concoction makes my mouth water just thinking of it?.I couldn?t get enough?.later at Cheffets, again at Carnival in Port o? Spain, and just last summer in BK at the West Indian Parade. Everytime I order this delicious treat it?s comes like so: meat, potatoes, wrapped in bread (borritto style, this is the simplest way to described it.)
I'd like to tell you about my Roti experience at Negril Villiage, in Chelsea tonight. I Arrive 8pm...Me, a Boricua Fashionista and my Jamaican Sista, who frequents the Greenwich Village restaurant location.... (me also a self proclaimed food critic and rum connoisseur) am excited for what?s come highly recommended. We order? pomegranate rum pu*ch (which did happen to be excellent) and curried goat roti (the waitress repeated the order back to me and seemed clear on what was ordered), she a Red Stripe and oxtail. We?re sipping our drinks and chillen to the Jah Cure and Sizzla oldschool riddims?.when my roti arrives. I find a bowl of meat and piece of bread folded at the side. I know this is not what I ordered, but the waitress never comes back to check?.me hungry and the curried goat looking good, I just eat it. I felt a little offended for some reason that the order was so wrong, but more than anything really disappointed. It seemed the waitress had almost played a prank on me, like I wouldn?t have known it wasn?t the correct thing (I?ve never seen a roti served in a bowl?am I missing something???) I would have mentioned it to the waitress that this is not what I expected, but for whatever reason that night I felt passive and just made up my mind to not go back. If you want a better Carib spot, go to Sugarcane in BK?.that?s hot (try the rasta pasta and bacchanal)! Nothing but respect?.. if anyone knows a good roti spot, let me know...
- Pros: Great Drinks
- Cons: Poor service and food so so
Celebs and Good Food!
by nycool
I know this is New York and celebs are all over the place but the stars must really have been aligned tonight. I just came back from the Negril that's located on 23rd street (they have 2) and was surprised to see three groups of celebs in the restaurant at the same time. When we walked in we were able to get a table on the upper level even though it was crowded and when the host or manager(who was really handsome:-) walked us to our table we past ASHANTI who was just chillin out with on other person who I think was her cousin, not that I was listening :-) Then in a booth in the corner was Omar Epps and Megan Good with three other people. And in the back was Salt -N- Pepper...both of them! So I was on excitement overload.
Anyway, the food was great. I had the curry chicken with rice and peas and I had a mango martini that was really good. The service was good too. Definitey one of my best dining experiences.
- Pros: Celeb sighting, good food, down home feel
- Cons: none
