In Short
At this bare-bones Chelsea eatery, colorful tapas take center stage over decor. Diners seeking a casual meal share plates at tiled tables or the sky blue bar. A map of Spain hangs on the wall, overshadowing dishes of squid in garlic sauce, pork marinated in herbs and torrejas, and the spot's special dessert of bread dipped in wine, cinnamon and sugar. Dinner begins with a plate of olives and potatoes with aioli and ends with a free digestif.

I came here a moon or two ago (I can't quite remember) and I absolutely loved it. What a fabulous little place. If it weren't that quaint and cozy, it would surely lose its charm. Go with a loved one. Enjoy good food. Drink great wine. Love life. :)

I can't believe all these bad reviews I am reading. I LOVE El Cid, and have had some of the best tapas ever here. Granted, the space is incredibly cramped and the service can be lacking, but the food is to die for! I especially love the squid and shrimp dishes . . . my mouth is watering just thinking of them. I have been here numerous times and everything has always been wonderful-can't say I have had a bad experience with a dish. The sangrias are generally pretty good, although the last time I went there I thought the batch did taste a bit watered down, but the no problems previously. My only complaint is that the space is very small (but hey, this is New York, so what isn't) and it can get a little noisy when all the patrons have had a few sangrias.

I've been to many places for spanish food and this is the best anywhere! You can bring your friends, family or go there for a really romantic date! The bartender is the nicest, warmest person who makes the greatest sangria's!! The service is great. And the entrees are delicious too!!! I highly recommend everyone to go there!!...it's a hidden nyc gem! :)
