Step inside the Chelsea Hotel's history-saturated lobby and take one of the rickety elevators upstairs until you reach this hidden treasure. Talented and reliable co-owners Armando Corral, Marie Caveggia and April Barton opened their third-floor salon in 1995, and have pleased a range of savvy customers ever since. The space itself is spare, with wood floors, neutral tones and a balcony overlooking 23rd Street. Respecting the texture and tendencies of their clients' hair (wavy- and curly-heads have it good here), they provide simple, gorgeous cuts that win compliments for weeks.

80 dollars worth spent. i mean really a pair of true religion jeans are 420 so to me its worth it.. if you cant afford it than sorry cause your missing out. i had a great experience.. as soon as i walked in they were offering me juice water coffee whatever and coming from jersey you don't get that everyday so pretty cool. i had Stefani cut my hair and at first i wasnt sure about things cause i know they cut womens hair but i wasnt sure how she was gonna shape my hair and no barber has ever done anything close, she knew what she was doing. i had the day off from school so i didn't mind that it took an hour and a half but i was chattin it up so its all good. after she was done april came over checked out my cut and did a little touch up but over all it was perfect. i felt like an idiot because i think i daid awesome like 20 times i was just really happy with the hair cut and that i found my new salon...... ill be there in another month or so and i cant wait to go back!
- Pros: staff.. the salon itself... its a welcoming place. my hair
- Cons: nothing bad to say
Where is Chris?

I've been going to Chris Scena for my haircuts for two years. He's the best guy around for men and women's cuts -- I've sent dozens of my friends to him and they have all loved their cuts.
So imagine my surprise when all of a sudden, I call 303 for my next appointment and they tell me that he is "gone." Worse yet, they refuse to give me his contact information! But, after looking for weeks and weeks, I finally found him at Rizza Salon (212.206.7622). The place is much quieter and calmer than 303. I still have a lot of warm feelings about this place, but I'm gonna follow Chris wherever he goes.
- Pros: Chic, cool location
- Cons: Pricey, no more male stylists
The ultimate haircutting fantasy, brought to life

From the moment one walks into Suite 303, it's apparent that the place is different. Most high-end salons have attitude, and Suite 303 is no exception. What -is- exceptional is that unlike most places on the cutting edge of fashion, Suite 303's attitude is welcoming, not snobby. That's because this place doesn't need to be snobby to be cool - the staff knows it's cool, so they're warm, open and accepting. April, Stefani and the rest of the team take the time to learn what makes each client tick - they're not looking to impose their own vision on their clients so much as bring their clients' visions to life. The experience is akin to hanging out in the living room of your coolest, bohemian friend and having her give you the best makeover you've ever had.
- Pros: Warm, friendly and uber-hip
- Cons: What are the drawbacks?
