Quite simply the best bread in NYC, if not the best in the US (and frankly, French boulangers ought to be a little intimidated). The pizzas are addictive -- don't miss potato, or the bianco -- and make for a perfect lunch if you're walking around SoHo. Order one ahead for a cocktail party snack. Don't miss the loaves, either. The pugliese is perfect -- the crisp, almost carmelized crust encasing beautiful, airy bread is a revelation. Sesamo, a similar bread but coated in sesame seeds is equally tasty. Get ready to turn your back on Atkins.

Don't come here if you're looking for the usual bakery sweet stuff. It's all about the bread, mostly. I had the pecorino bread and it was diiiiiiiviiiiiine!! I also had the pine nut tart thing and it to was absolutely delicious. The only thing I didn't like is that there's hardly any seating. They definitely need more room.

Forget about Vesuvio's up the street, that place gets the hype for having been around so long... Sullivan Street is the real deal. Crunchy crust with a light airy middle, this place makes bread into an art form. The pizza breads are to die for... zucchini, celery root, tomato, pecorino, mushroom, potato and the brand new spinach... I've tried them all and they are amazing.
