The Scene
The high-octane blast of coffee-bean-infused air upon entering Porto Rico Coffee Importers is sufficient to provide even hard-core caffeine junkies with their daily java jolt. The heady scent emanates from dozens of burlap sacks containing an astounding array of coffees, many of which are available for immediate consumption at a counter nestled in the back corner of the hard-to-navigate space.

The Goods
Though the shop is best known for its prodigious coffee collection, it also does a remarkable job of transcending the bean brew boundaries. Porto Rico offers an impressive selection of brewing paraphernalia and spices, as well as a variety of loose teas impressive enough to inspire a visiting Brit to proclaim, "There may just be hope for you lot after all!"

Good prices, good selection, staff is a bit who-gives-care. Maybe it's performance art imitating rebellious teenagers?

If you are a true coffee or tea drinker and are miffed by Starbucks-type prices, take a gander at Porto Rico. They have an unbelievable amount of coffee and tea choices for reasonable prices. Their staff is well-educated in the coffee and tea biz. Also, their website offers weekly sales. But actually being there and talking to someone is a better experience.

I often stop in Porto Rico to get a quick cup of coffee to go, or to get my supply of beans. They have a huge variety of fresh roasted beans, and many at a great value. They charge like $.75 for a cup of coffee if you bring your own mug, which is cheap and environmentally responsible. Their mochaccino usually is bad, and subsequently I dont really trust their espresso drinks. The employees are really lax, which is fine if you are not in a rush, but frustrating if you are. They also stock various coffee mugs, filters, pots, etc.
