What People Are Saying About Mud Honey

In Short – From the sexually graphic stained-glass art, Misfits poster, and noose hanging from the ceiling, it's clear: This ain't your mom's beauty parlor. Occupying a space the size of a studio apartment, Mudhoney is loud (heavy guitar music), punk (black drapes, velvet pillows) and dripping with macabre curiosa. Stage-ready stylists sport choppy mullets and gravity-defying Mohawks, just like the ones they create for the celebrities and scenesters sitting in their four leopard-print barbershop chairs.

Mudhoney on Kenmare - Ask for Troye!
by YearofGlad at Citysearch
Over four years ago, I had a crazy long mop of hair that I deliberately grew out so I could go to a hair stylist to find me a proper style. I will admit that Astor and the like were my barbers of choice before and I was ready to splurge and see if a stylist versus a barber made a difference.
It does. Folks. It does.
Thus, four years ago, I started seeing Troye Evers. I've followed him from Kropps and Bobbers to Tease to now Mudhoney on Kenmare, and except for one short-sighted cut because of being dead-broke, I will see him forever.
I wouldn't say I have a very showy or intricate cut but Troye always does it just right. He's fast, friendly, professional, and most of all makes me feel comfortable (I have had longstanding fear and anxiety related to getting my hair cut. Troye is the first person to make me feel completely myself and at ease). He always does a great job giving me something sophisticated and clean with a bit of twist and I like to think that's who I am.
I treated my wife to a cut and color from him last year for her birthday and she was extremely happy with what he gave her as well. Her second favorite cut of all time, next to a cut she got in Paris on our Honeymoon. So that's high praise.
I 'm a Rock-N-Roll guy in conservative dress so you don't have to be the missing member of The Misfits to fit in here. You can be, but you don't need to be.
So don't be intimidated by the tattoos or the piercings or the purple hair or the rocking soundtrack that plays while you're there. The important thing is the cut and Troye never ceases to deliver.
- Pros: Friendly staff, awesome soundtrack, damn fine haircut.
- Cons: the only sad things is they don't take credit cards.
Brandon Dailey is the best thing that ever happened to me!
by msbathory at Citysearch
Brandon Dailey at the Kenmare location has been my stylist for just about four years, and I have never been anything but totally satisfied. In fact, I lived in another state briefly, but would wait until I was in New York to have my hair done because I don't trust anyone else to do it. I would truly call Brandon an artist. He has great attention to detail, and always knows exactly what to do. I actually just let him do whatever he wants because it's always perfect. Every time I leave the salon I feel super hot, and I am often asked by people on the street if they can take pictures of my hair. I say no of course, no one else gets to rock my haircut! Not that I need to say more, but it also doesn't hurt that he's really cool and easy on the eyes.
- Pros: Seriously everything
- Cons: no complaints here
Be sure to ask for Sarah Fenoglio!
by daintyrsmarter at Citysearch
Sarah has been cutting my hair for around two years now, and she is by far the best stylist I've ever had! Not only is she able to give you exactly the cut and style that you want, but her creativity and skill shine through in a way that will definitely make you look fabulous!
It was my honor to be one of her hair models when she came to Mud Honey, and I will definitely continue to see her while she is here, and you should too.
As for Mud Honey itself, the atmosphere is just amazing - totally posh and absolutely splendid decor and their taste in music is just awesome! I had so much fun getting my cut and color there.
All five stars.
