Lighting by Gregory came highly recommended to us and didn't disappoint. I worked with Brice who was knowledgeable, courteous, and definitely not aggressive. Their selection was great. For our new apartment we purchased 2 monorail systems, recessed lights and under cabinet lights for our kitchen, 2 wall washes for pictures, and switches, dimmers and wall plates. My knowledge of what I needed wasn't great, especially for the switches dimmers, and wall plates, but Brice helped me choose the right products. Jahaira in Customer Service was excellent in following up with me whenever I needed delivery information. They exchanged an item that came in wrong and expedited delivery. I would highly recommend LBG and will definitely use them again if I have lighting needs.
LBG is one of those overwhelming lighting stores on the Bowery, but there is almost nothing they don't have or can't get. I was directed to work with Cliff Starr by my architect. I chose to do all the purchasing myself for a major NYC combination/renovation and we needed a lot of lighting for our project. Cliff is an amazing resource, wildly knowledgeable, and an incredible value add. To be perfectly honest, I price shopped most every item I bought, probably hundreds of line items for the project (not just lighting). After my first consult with Cliff I double checked his pricing against the web. On average LBG was even with best web pricing. At times they were a little more, and at times actually a little less. Paying for shipping for the most frugal would probably put LBG over the lowest prices available, however buying lighting for a major project is a massive endeavor, filled with technical nuances, especially for a non-professional. While Cliff does get busy, he is extremely responsive, often replying at all hours and on weekends. I would encourage anyone to work with Cliff on a major project. There are a great number of technical details and Cliff is able to ensure you find what you want and do it within your budget without tripping over yourself and creating more issues by using multiple vendors. I would STRONGLY encourage anyone needing $1,000's of dollars in lighting for larger projects to call Cliff. This was one of my best experiences buying for my project, and I was never disappointed by LBG or Cliff. Note you usually need to schedule time to meet, particularly for a major review of your project.

GO SOMEWHERE ELSE - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! – All the bad reviews are true - this place will take your money and then not deliver and will play every trick in the book to avoid having to help you out or give you a refund. After our hellish (and expensive) experience there we discovered the wonderful Lamp Warehouse in Brooklyn - unlike Lighting by Gregory they actually have everything in stock and they provide excellent service and value.
DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THIS COMPANY! – This company deserves a negative star rating. I should have read all these recent reviews prior to ordering from them. It's been 2 weeks now and still no email with an order number! Plus, they've already charged my credit card over $1000!! They do NOT answer their customer service line and they do NOT respond to your messages. The only thing you can do is dispute your credit card with this company. Please spread this message and DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS COMPANY BECAUSE IT IS A FRAUD!!
Customer Service Atrocious – NO STARS!! I ordered products online and was charged for them and nearly three months later, despite repeated promises, they have not shipped. No communication from Gregory about delays and only form responses to my emails. Trying to finally cancel the order and get a refund is proving difficult. Strongly recommend NOT ordering from this firm.
WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER – I purchased a $1000 chandelier online from the store. I have been calling for days to return it and no one answers the phone at customer service. Additionally, the only people I can talk to are in sales and refuse to help me, they just transfer me to an answering machine. Luckily, I am an attorney, but I will have to sue to reclaim my money.
do not buy from Lighting by Gregory – I placed an order on 6/4/10 for a hunter fan remote control and slanted mount for a total of $60.63. The amount was posted to my discover card on 6/6/10. They posted two week delivery on their website. Three weeks later still no delivery, I called to inquire, the person took my name and said she would check into it. A week later still no contact, I called last friday and Brian answered the phone who refused to help me and refused to give me the name of the president of the company stating I didn't have the right to complain b/c the order was probably late. On 7/5/10, I called customer service, the person that answered the phone did not find an order for me did not see the charge on my discover card and denied charging my discover card and did not give me the email to forward my complaint and hung up when I asked her name. I called the third time Sabrina in Customer service gave me only "Daniel" as the president of the company to complain to.
My only resort is to go through my discover card.
great people to help you find what you love – Wife and I wanted to replace our 30 year old chandelier as a valentine's present to eachother. We hadnt shopped for lighting in..about 30 years! Our daughter suggested we go online. We found Lighting by gregory and there was so much product in dizzies the mind. Fortunately you can also call and get a real human on the phone. What a concept! We told them what we were looking for and what we wanted to spend. They took the time to spend a half hour with us working through a bunch of beautiful fixtures. When we finaly saw one we fell in love with at a price we liked, the saleswoman took another 20% off the price. As if that wasnt enough it arrived last thursday, just in time to have it hung for valentines day. Couldn't be happier. Were just glad our daughter showed us how to do a review for them here to show our gratitude. ha ha!
Easy Return – I dont blame LBG for the broken product, hence the five stars, but yeah. our floor lamp came busted up pretty good. It just looked like the delivery guys were throwing it around carelessly.
What was great though was how easy returning the thing was. I called on a monday, real friendly girl took all my information, promised me the lamp in a week and i had the new one by the same friday. Didnt pay a dime to return in (not that i would have given the condition of it, but they didnt try anything either)
real reputable site for lighting. id recommend them to anyone.
(oh and the lamp is beautiful when its not in pieces.)
