  1. It's really refreshing for a long term vegetarian from Iowa to be able to eat everything on a menu at restaurant (there are only 2 places where I live that are that way) The food and service was excellent and very efficient.
  2. Small place, great food
  3. Red Bamboo is a reliably yummy place for lunch or dinner -- and they do great platters for events too.
  4. The food at Red bamboo, generally speaking, is quite good, but not quite top notch.
  5. ...gooey egg-shaped 'things' with the worst flavor & texture i've ever had!
  6. The vegatarian and the vegan in the group both said the food was good.
  7. have loved everything I tried- pork chops (collard greens were fantastic), spiced seitan appetizer, and the creole chicken are my favorites.
  8. They come with an absolutely delicious just-spicy-enough dipping sauce, and are a steal at $3.50.
  9. couldn't believe how tasty and authentic the fish, chicken and shrimp-like veggie dishes were.
  10. The food is wonderful and there is a great variety of choices.
  11. am a meat eater, but this is a great place to brin your vegan friends.
  12. Highly recommended for vegetarians and meat-eaters alike!
  13. Great food for everyone
  14. especially loved the BBQ wings but would reccomend pretty much anything.
  15. love vegetarian food (although I am not) and this place has some of the best in all NYC.
  16. The food was delicious.
  17. However, the appetizers I've tried (rolls, calamari, fish fingers) were really delicious.
  18. The desserts are absolutely to die for - excellent cakes (try the Peanut Butter Tandy Cake), delicious non-dairy ice cream and even better milkshakes!
  19. They do a great job of making the food accurate(shrimp looks like shrimp, chicken like chicken, etc), and the taste is fantastic!
  20. Never had a bad dish here.
  21. everything was delicious
  22. enjoyed every part of my meal (and some of hers) from the appetizers to dessert to the wonderful service we received.
  23. My favorite dish is the collard green rolls.
  24. Excellent food!
  25. Unique meat-replacement dishes
  26. but the way I see it, it's a great place to take a non-vegetarian to show them what AMAZING vegetarian and vegan food there is out there.
  27. The food is really great.
  28. The food is great though and one of the most inventive vegan/veggie places I have ever been to.
  29. However, the food there is superb and well worth the wait.
  30. Good food, very small space
  31. The Tandoori Chicken Supreme was AMAZING and just-the-right-amount-of-spicy, and it actually tasted BETTER than chicken.
  32. the focus here is soul food, but there are very tasty healthier options available as well.
  33. The staff is really nice, the place is quaint and once again the food rocks.
  34. The mashed potatoes were COLD & not freshly made.
  35. Awesome vegetarian soul food restaurant with a lengthy and diverse menu.
  36. My boyfriend, who's a life time vegetarian, said it was the best food he had in the city.
  37. Overall, this place is great for meat eaters and vegetarians alike and definitely a great value (dinner for 4 was $65, and lunch for 2 was $19).
  38. good food, seating's a tight squeeze
  39. My friends and I love the buffalo wings, bourbon chick and the soul chicken.
  40. Everything from their sandwiches to the entrees are plated beautifully and their portions will not disappoint.
  41. The vegetarian/vegan cuisine is excellent, the portions plentiful and the price is just right.
  42. Wonderful food, wonderful service!
  43. the menu looked great, but the food was the biggest disappointment i've had yet!
  44. Although the service was probably the worst I've had, I'll go back because as a vegan, good food is hard to find.
  45. But to make up for the wait, the food was fabulous.
  46. good food.
  47. Personally, they make some of the best Miso soup I've ever tasted- they load it with vegetables so its more hearty than your average miso soup.
  48. Even my bacon loving boyfriend likes this place!
  49. Great food here, but be prepared to wait if you go in anytime during the weekend or weeknights.
  50. Its dishes are mostly bad for you (especially anything fried) but they're oh so tasty you won't care.
  51. It's some of the best and most creative vegetarian food I've ever had.
  52. Easily one of the best restaurants in New York that offer vegan/vegetarian cuisine.
  53. For those vegetarians who liked the taste of meat but decided to change for different reasons, this place has some very very good food.
  54. For best results stick to the chicken and pork dishes, the creole soul or parmesan chicken and butterfly soy chops with the collard greens are some of the best veggie dishes I've had.
  55. now that i live in new york, i bring all of my visitors to Red Bamboo to experience the delicious cusine, however, DO NOT go when you are on the verge of starvation.
  56. recommend the Collard Green rolls and Codfish cakes with Mango salsa but I saw many dishes pass by and they all look amazing.
  57. don't really like doing a lot of the fake meat, but this place is amazing.
  58. The food may be decent but the RUDE customer service (the HOSTESS during the DINNER shift) will turn your evening into a night from hell.
  59. Great food + quality service=success.
  60. Whenever I'm in the neighborhood, I drop by for a quick snack or a meal or I grab some takeout to enjoy later at home.
  61. Soul chicken is good for the hunger and good for soul.
  62. My husband and I have travelled far to eat fine meals at Red Bamboo; I also order Red Bamboo food for my office.
  63. know of no other place where I can get such good MEATLESS soul food from in NYC.
  64. This great restaurant is fairly inexpensive AND it has great food!
  65. Everything on the menu is delicious and well-catered to the tastes of craving-stricken vegetarians and vegans, or health-conscience meat-eaters.
  66. The tables are too close together and it's awkward to get up and down without disturbing the folks next to you, but the food is still the best around.

Never Again

by yakuza718

First off,the space heater by the door was a classy touch to this overcrowded hole, our server was good and the food came out fast but they aren't reinventing the wheel, and as for my gripe,i usually put some extra with the bill and see if they give me change and then leave some more on the table, makes everyone feel a bit special as they usually share the tips anyway, but having the girl come up and ask me if everything was ok because i only left 10 percent and then as i actually had my hand in my pocket to leave more i began to explain and then told her that now being told i left less was pointless to even give them the rest but i did because if you have to beg me for it you should also make sure you have your food game on point, gripe 2,the app was good but the mashed potatos were lumpy and dry,and get some better silverware or at least give me a serrated knife to use as a butter knife is amateur at best, and as for the faux pork chops ,maybe you need to trim down those applie slices and make it taste like pork and not a chicken patty, the next was is that i know we ordered two different dishes but at least make the plates match, best part of it all was leaving,as for eating vegan/vegetarian ,they are nowhere near the better of a growing number of places in the NY area, thanks for the experience though and for the rest of you who go,enjoy.

good food. very very bad service

by vicriver1

I really love the food howevr they just don't care about hospitality and making things right. Especialy when they screw up. I order delivery from them all the time. A while back I ordered some food and spring rolls were part of my order. When I recieved the order the spring rolls were not included. When I called to complain and asked them to please send me what I paid for they said that they will not send the delivery person just for spring rolls. I could not believe it. Remember I alredy paid for it and they would not send it.

This brings me to now, weeks later, I called and ordered Ginger Beef and Chicken Nuggets. I got the Ginger Beef but instead of the Chicken Nuggets they sent me Chicken Satay. When I called to complain and asked them to please send me the correct order the woman i spoke to who took the order told me that I was a problem customer that they had issues with before (the spring rolls). It seems that when they scew up they do not want to hear about it. Both times I asked to speak with a manager and both times i was told that there is no manager available. I was also told that if I hated Red Bamboo so much that I should not order from them. I was appalled. I've been in the food and beverage industry for thirty years. If i found out that one of my employees treated a customer like this i would fire them ASAP. Courtious hospitality is the those most fundamental and crucal part of this business.

  • Pros: food is fantastic
  • Cons: unprofessional, lacking management supervision

good food, seating's a tight squeeze

I came to Red Bamboo b/c I've been to Soy and Sake Village (not yet on CS) which is a new Veg restaurant that the owner of RB opened and was so excited to give it a try. I went on a Fri night and luckily got the last table for 2 so didn't have to wait but there was quite the wait within a few minutes time. It's a tiny place and I had to shimmy into my seat without disturbing the other diners. The food was def. above average and the menu was quite mouth watering but I probably won't be back soon. I like places that are more low key and less crowded (although some are worth it). I took home some leftovers since the portions were far from skimpy and it made for a nice lunch the next day.

  • Pros: good quality food
