“Good selection of beer, great location, no pretentious bouncer.”
“There is no pretentous bouncer here either which is a breath of fresh air given the fact that it is a bar in New York City.”
“Peculier Pub also has decent pub food if you are hungry or craving the munchies.”
“The bathroom is way too small for such a huge drink menu, so get in line!”
“great place to spend with your friends!”
“great beer selection and service.”
“The prices are reasonable and the food is pretty darned good considering the rest of the bars along Bleeker.”
“They have a good selection of beers on tap, which makes it a nice place to stop by for a quick drink to meet up with people before heading out for real.”
One of the last great Bleecker Street haunts to survive the Midtownifaction of the Village, the Peculiar is still dark, woody, filled with students, and has three million kinds of beer.
So much beer!!. This bar is the epitome of a dive bar! A little dirty and could use a paint job. Oddly enough, I prefer this bar that way. I love coming down here on a Thursday or Sunday when it's not too crowded and have a few beers from their extensive selection. So many beers, so little time!!
everything except the bouncer.
I made the mistake of bringing friends to this place on New Years when the rudest bouncer ever was working.
He neglected to "bounce" a vomiting girl and then verbally assaulted some people who were simply trying to use the one toilet not overflowing with vomit.
Sexist, loud, pig bouncer! watch out!
Good beer selection. Dive bar with great beer menu. Staff is knowledgeable about beer selection. No credit cards/Cash only
A great place to spend with your friends!. Good selection of beer, great location, no pretentious bouncer. The lighting is awesome, they have great big cozy wooden booths to sit in with your friends. Its a nice warm atmosphere to spend with your friends on those cold winter nights. It adds on to Bleecker Streets charm. A nice young crowd is found throughout the bar. I left this place feeling fantastic and it wasn't just because of the booze!
Bleeker's #1 spot.
I've been coming here for years now (roughly about 3 times a month) and I still can't find something to complain about. The beer selection is amazing. The prices are reasonable and the food is pretty darned good considering the rest of the bars along Bleeker. Its convienently located on the corner of Bleeker and La Guardia, so getting a cab on those drunken nights is no problem at all. There is no pretentous bouncer here either which is a breath of fresh air given the fact that it is a bar in New York City.
One slight thing I can complain about has absolutely nothing to do with the bar itself. Almost every time I go outside for a smoke, I'm bothered by a drug-dealer/undercover cop trying to get me to buy coke. I know this has no reflection on the bar but if there were a way to get rid of these people, I, along with many of my friends and fellow customers would greatly appreciate it.
great service.
great beer selection and service. knowledgeable staff . nice college crowd and atomsphere.
bathrooms too small.
A battered old tavern claimed almost exclusively by NYU students..
In Short
Finding anyone over the age of 22 at this local dive is quite a challenge. The Peculiar Pub is always crawling with youthful vitality that, in this circumstance, translates into rowdy binge drinking. Young worshippers of the bottle cram into wooden booths of clerical origins, on which they carve their crushes' names and their four-lettered words of wisdom. Is this sacrilege? Well, at least they show good faith in the 500 bottled beers and 17 drafts available.
What? Can't hear you...what?????. We were here on Friday night, and OMG, it was LOUD. Not so much the music though - mostly, it was the clientele. Rowdy, drunk college students, and plenty of them, screaming at the top of their lungs. The waitresses were great, though, and the beer selection was excellent. Prices were quite reasonable as well. However, if you are over 25 you will feel seriously out of place here, and if you want to be able to have a conversation, you should probably look elsewhere. I would consider coming back on a Sunday afternoon or other slow time to further explore their beer selection.
Wow, they have that kind of beer?. I've been to this place many a time. I usually take visitors here because they can find their favorite beer and more. The list is so extensive, I usually end up getting drunk. The tables are long and made for good conversation with either your group or a few other people who just sit down next to you. The place is a bit loud, so shout away. The bathroom is way too small for such a huge drink menu, so get in line! It's a great place to meet people, and I love the juke box... the tunes are very, very good. Munchies are good, and I believe gratuity is incorporated into the price of a drink already, so no need to tip.
Mixed Pecular Reviews. Peculiar is right. The place is weird but the drinks are cheap and the crowd is mixed. More mixing occurs when the people leave for the night.
