The Scene – Chili-pepper lights and bright-colored hot sauce bottles line the walls in standard urban-roadhouse decor, but the East Village crowd, relaxing in ample booths and tables, makes this restaurant look more like a coffee shop. Beer is the choice beverage in the bar area, but the three-rum hurricanes, tasting more of citrus fruit than sugary syrup, provide a fresh take on the tall New Orleans cocktail. – – The Food – Nothing makes for better bar snacks than this down-home Southern menu. Whet your appetite with the whole-kernel corn bread, then wash down some…

Great Food and Cocktails

by jvig

Ordered the Chicken Fried Steak with eggs and home fries. The steak is off the chart , this dish could stand up to most chiefs and establishments. Great tunes on the jukebox of famous BE artists.

This is an authentic BE place in the big city !

Did I ask for my food to go?

by foodtruth

I wasn't looking for linen tablecloths, fine china and crystal but I think if you order a po boy it should come dressed and not served on top of a wet tomato so the sandwich is soggy with two sealed plastic containers of sauces(takeout style.) The sweet potato fries were not fries but roasted wedges of sweet potato. The oysters and shrimp were cooked well but everything else was wrong.

Disappointed

  • Pros: friendly service
  • Cons: takeout delivered to your table

Best weekend brunch

by archerfire

I always go here, but only for their weekend brunches. It's $10.95 and you get a whole lotta food.

I know it' s not authentic southern, cajun. Thier po boys are too small and not messy enough to be the real deal. But it's good food anyways. Their fried catfish and eggs rancheros are the best.

  • Pros: Food, relaxed atmosphere
  • Cons: For authentic cajun food, you might want to go somewhere else

The Details on Acme Bar & Grill

Know Before You Go:

Forego the gelatinous tartar and cocktail sauces and reach for the five-alarm house hot sauce, but beware the warning label and sample it before you pour.

Save Money:

Weekdays, there's a half-priced appetizer from 4pm to 7pm. There's also a drink special, such as $2 pints of the "homebrew."
