GREAT place for AUTHENTIC food from SPAIN!. Awesome restaurant. Food was great, very generous portions and reasonably priced. Fun and friendly staff. Service was very attentive. Look forward to returning again!

We had been back MANY times ever since and it had replaced our former number one restaurant (Trattoria Spaghetto - which is now back to being our NUMBER TWO restaurant). What has made the place special was NOT only the food but the entire wait staff! Rafael/waiter and with the two owners (Roscendo F.) along with the rest of the staff made it a friendly, festive, party atmosphere and made you feel at home and part of a true "family". We have celebrated my and my wife's birthdays there for the last 2 years now going on three.

Pros: Food, Service - especially with Rafael as your waiter, Price.

i think the food was wonderful. the smells coming from the t. i think the food was wonderful. the smells coming from the tables made my mouth water, our service was superb, i started with the sizzling shrimp, along with the smoked salmon & shrimp. Unfortunately, the shrimp wasn't really smoked but they were huge so it was ok the sizzling shrimp along with the spicy salad was a nice start, the paella was great but just alot. my favorite was the strawberry margarita i would defnitry recommend this spanish cusin

Go somewhere else. I've been to many Spanish restaurants and tapas bars, and was really quite disappointed with the quality of the food at Cafe Espanol. The chorizo was really fatty, the mussels were not fresh, and the rice in the paella was undercooked. The service was good, but if it weren't for my gift certificate, I would not think paying the full bill on the meal would be worth it.

Good Spanish Cuisine. I've been here numerous times and each time was a different experience... meaning good if not better every time.

Food is def on point when it comes to Spanish meaning Spain cuisine. The Baby Lamb Chops is awesome and becareful as it leaves your teeth with a inky film that only a toothbrush and paste can cure.

Wine selection ain't so bad either.

Editorial Review. Eighteen varieties of paella and a three-course prix fixe for $21.95 distinguish this Spanish restaurant in the West Village.

Average Food. I visited Cafe Espanol about two years ago and was very satisfied with my experience. But after my visit this past Friday I think it may officially be my last visit. We ordered clams in garlic sauce for appetizer which was good but from my experience this is good at every restaurant I've been to. For dinner, I ordered the seafood paella thinking it would be really authentic and tasty; but surprisingly it was bland to say the least. My boyfriend had the skirt steak which I thought tasted good. The way I see it, if you?re an authentic Spanish restaurant and can't get paella right then you need to either close up shop or get a new chef. The highlight of my evening I'd have to say was playing with the little turtle in the fountain (in the garden) and definitely not the food.

garden dining!. I happened upon Cafe Espanol on one spring evening during my search for a happy union of a romantic dining experience and some badly-needed comfort food. When I found out they had a garden, I requested my date and I be seated there. Even though we had no reservation, we were seated promptly at a table in the middle of their small-but-lovely garden. The seafood paella proved to be exactly the kind of comfort food I was seeking. The candle-lit garden seating made me forget that we were in the middle of the Village. The fact that Cafe Espanol's price is shockingly reasonable and that wait staff are friendly and gracious is a definite plus. When I was sipping their mellow sangria, I knew I found the happy union after all!

Not to be confused w/Cafe Espanol on Carmine. My husband and I ate here for dinner on a Friday night. We were attended to very quickly and courteously. The atmosphere is warm and inviting - loved the murals. We ordered the Pulpo a La Gallega as an appetizer and shared a Paella Marinera as an entree. For dessert, we tried the Tartufo. We loved it all. We had dined at Cafe Espanol on Carmine and the service could have been better, the restaurant was poorly lit making it hard to read the menu, and the Paella Valenciana was too salty. Cafe Espanol on Bleecker is the best.

GREAT birthday dinner for group of 13!. We celebrated a birthday dinner at Cafe Espanol on a Thursday night and it was a BLAST! By calling ahead of time, they gave us the option to choose from two pre-set menus (incl. appetizer, main course, coffee, desert and unlimited Sangria/Wine/beer for 3hrs!)! Prices were very reasonable and the food was very good! The birthday girl arrived an hour late, but the waiter insisted that it was not a problem! As soon as she arrived and said her Hellos, the appetizers were on the table! The waiter was very attentive and treated us very nice! Service was GREAT! We were pretty loud, but we were practically the only ones in the area we were seated (Sullivan St. entrance). Highly recommended!!!
