Treat yourself to a taste of Italy in the heart of Greenwich Village at New York's oldest cafe, Caffe Dante. Since 1915 the cafe has been a place for people from all over to relax and enjoy freshly brewed espresso and cappuccino, which is imported directly from Naples. All of the desserts including the pastry and gelato are made right on the premises to ensure freshness. On nice days sit outside and soak up the sun while you enjoy one of the many sandwiches, salads, or cold platter appetizers from the menu, along with a drink from the full-service bar. My cannoli was so yummy we made a quick run down(from the upper east side) the next day for another. My husband ordered pumpkin gelato and that was fabulous as well.

An after dinner treat.

A bit pricey compared to what you would find on Arthur Ave, but Caffe Dante boasts friendly service, a variety of Italian desserts (including cakes imported from Italy), and a convenient SoHo location. The chocolate mousse cake was rich and smooth, but the chocolate mousse by itself was another matter, lumpy - a sign of error in preparation. Despite that, a solid choice for coffee, conversation and cake.

  • Pros: Service, Location
  • Cons: Price
