The Setting – A pleasing stop for wine, crepes and a cigarette break, Shade remains remarkably subdued despite its corner location off Washington Square Park. The black vinyl loveseats against the wall may not exactly be comfy, but the unfinished brick walls, low light and French conversation in the background enhance the intimacy of the place. – – The Menu – The bar offers a fine selection of crisp white wines and hearty reds, with soups, salads and sweet or savory crepes (containing your choice of three fillings).
Waste of Time and Money

Before you have even finished your first drink, the waitstaff will begin to hover nearby and interrupt conversations to try to sell you another. Mind you, I'm well versed and very astute with the bar scene, but the tactics used here are curiously crass. I go there to laugh at those bartenders who think they are pulling the wool over your eyes with their hackneyed utterances. Joke is right. The harder they try and be a "friend," the more they're adding insult to injury. This place is the epitome of disingenuous. If there was a zero rating, I'd fill that one in.
- Pros: they don't charge for napkins or straws
- Cons: overpriced drinks & food, aggressive sales technique
Best Crepes in NYC

Great atmosphere, great crepes and great beer. Very trendy. Reasonable. Service was fantastic and polite!
Really expensive, flattest beer ever.

I like the atmosphere, music, and at first the bartender was really nice. But, apparently in Eastern Europe (where he was from) they don't understand the concept of the customer is always right. My boyfriend ordered a Spaten on tap, it was really flat. He told the bartender and the guy tasted it for himself, then checked the keg and said "this is how Spaten tastes" and so besides not just giving him anothr beer, he was out to prove him wrong. Then I got a Stella and it was actually worse. It was the flattest beer ever and they both cost us $6.00, which is a lot for beer. Bad customer service!!
- Pros: ambience, nice marble bar
- Cons: HORRIBLE BEER on tap-2 out of their 5 taps were FLAT!
