Exposed brick walls and comfy couches enhance the mellow, intimate ambience at this neighborhood favorite. The bar runs along one narrow room, with a larger area next door to accommodate larger groups. While they don't stock spirits, the wine list is good and the beer selection is even better (with more than 50 varieties by the bottle), running the gamut from standard selections (Stella) to more unusual choices like Rogue Dead Guy. – – Hits: It's one of Soho's more convivial, friendly bars, and if a night of low-key fun is what you're looking for, it's a sure thing any night of…

Very solid bar

i'm just throwing in my two cents re the music. i agree with the second posting that the music is great. its the reason i'm going back tonight. my complaint with the bar is that the wine is spendy. but it is tasty.

An institution

by seafeel

I hate to give The Room such a good review because it's a small bar and it already gets crowded, but after the previous post I felt I needed to say something. I've been coming here since 1997 and I've enjoyed every night I've hung out there. I'm not sure what the previous poster is talking about in regards to music, but if they aren't happy with bands like Silversun Pickups, Interpol, Luscious Jackson and Pixies then they're at the wrong bar. It's one of the few bars in the city where I know I'm going to hear great music and maybe even discover a new band. Keep up the good music and of course the nice selection of beer and wine.

Cheers!

  • Pros: Good vibe and great music
  • Cons: Small and can get crowded

Great setting but BAD music!

by luvnyc401

I've heard a lot of good things about this place and finally decided to try it out last night. The set-up is very cozy. Unfortunately all of the couches/tables were taken so we were seated on a bench in the back, but it was still pleasant. The low lighting, vanilla aroma from the candles and decor around the lounge was great, perfect for a date. We got a bottle of wine which wasn't too bad, cost about $50. All in all would have been a great place- except the music was horrible! It was like this mix of really bad rock music. I would expect a place like that to have some lounge-y/smooth/seductive tunes on. And if rock is their thing, fine, but Id expect GOOD rock music. It was just really really bad and ruined the whole feel of the place. I hope they don't keep that playlist every night.

  • Pros: Perfect place for a date, really romantic ambiance
  • Cons: Bad Bad Bad music
