“The back room where we were seated is cozy, but you are no way exposed to the live entertainment.”
“never mind that the pushy waitress kept bugging us because there was a minimum of TWO drinks!”
“probably the best place in nyc to enjoy brazilian song (and a little bit of dance).”
“Awesome jazz - close and friendly”
“The downside is the seating is a bit cramped and not all that comfortable, and the drinks are a bit pricey.”
“My date and I were there 45 minutes, the entertainment was poor, the drinks mediocre, and I felt the staff will try to weasle every penny they can.”
It has moved to Third street and it is even better!. The vibe is thick with history; they say this was one of Billie Holliday's spots and you can definitely feel it in the walls. There is an eclectic music program with a big dose of Samba-Jazz. The more I go the more I feel at home and love it.
World class music. Love the new space, even though I miss the intimacy from the old one -it's great to see bands now with 6-12 pieces, which they never could have fit in the old space. Been there a few nights now and have been amazed at the quality of music each and every time. The staff is attentive and friendly, and the vibe is fun. Definitely recommend a visit. On west 3rd street now.
Not the same....... When I heard that the Zinc Bar had moved, I was concerned that the change in locale might spoil it's great vibe. Unfortunately it was far worse than I could have imagined. Although the space is much larger (including better bathroom facilities which were much needed), it now longer has the same cool atmosphere. Admittedly, I was there on a Monday, a slower night, but it had the air of the sort of jazz club that the tourist bus might pull up too. Most of the clientele were elderly and the two acts were just plain bad.....a first in my years as a patron. How sad. It might still be worth it for a notable act, but not for hanging out.
Best music club in NY!!!!. Hey did any one know that Zinc Bar is in a new location? They're now on West 3rd Street. The music, the vibe, the space is even better than ever!!!!!
cosy dive where u will thrive. had a great time at zinc bar. the music was great. probably the best place in nyc to enjoy brazilian song (and a little bit of dance). though the band could have benefitted from a little bit more organisation, talent was there. best of all was the attentive service. cocktail waitress and bar tender made one feel welcome and comfortable and added to the excitement. i would highly recommend this place whether u like brazilian music or not. it is fun and relaxing to hang out with friends or even alone
Worst Bar Ever!. I went on a date to this place, so my friend he looked this great bar online and the music should be great since the advertised ethno Jazz. there was a $5 cover charge posted online and a minimum of ONE drink. we go there, and the cover charge is $8 instead, the jazz that I was hoping to listen to was a mix of African and Caribbean music, the place was so crwoded you could barely see one member of the musicians....never mind that the pushy waitress kept bugging us because there was a minimum of TWO drinks! the drinks over priced (no one should pay $24 for two drinks in a place that unhip!) a big disappointment. I do NOT recommend this bar. they lied about the cover charge and drinks and on top of that the type of music.
Good music, stuffy place..
The jazz band was outstanding. Especially the singer, Michelle Manzo.
The place was extremely hot that night. They apparently thought it was cold enough outside to not run the AC. They were wrong. Everybody was complaining of the heat that night.
Other complaint, one of the busboys had the most terribly unbearable body odor! Sounds funny, but in a place this small, it's disgusting. Every time he went by he left a trail of unpleasantness. Management should notice and tell him to do something. I don't care where you're from or what your customs are, when you work in a place and it affects people, you should learn to adopt the American custom known as "deodorant."
Awesome jazz - close and friendly.
Came across the Zinc Bar on recent travels and it immediately became the highlght. Went back on three consecutive nights and who cares about the cost of drinks when you can listen to musicians like Craig Lewis. Despite work, the Zinc bar held my attraction until the end of the early morning sets on each night - I will definately return on my next visit to the Big A.
Thanks Zinc, you have made a visiting English bloke really mellow.
THE BEST!.
My friend and I have been there 3 times and we just LOVE IT! The first time we went was on a Friday and it was African Jazz night. We really liked it although we didn't understand the language :) The second time we went was on a Saturday which was Brazilian night. Ther peformance was great although we didn't get to stay until the end. The last (and third) time we went was on a Thursday for latin night. I have to say Latin night was my favorite night. We stayed for two sets! The music was great!
Overall, the place is wonderful. The server is always nice and the fact that she can remember everyones drink is amazing to me. The atmosphere is nice and cozy with a slightly cramped feel if your neighbors are rude.
Highly recommended.
Great jazz and music venue. This has been and continues to be one of the best in the business. I recommend it to everyone who likes good music.
