What People Are Saying About Spring Lounge

Those looking for a chic Nolita evening might suffer a little confusion at the "lounge" designation given to this Spring Street mainstay. But, once they've kicked off their Jimmy Choos and settled in with a pint in a cozy corner, it'd likely be a challenge to pull them away from the low-key bonhomie that's kept this place in business since Prohibition, while the rest of the hood has turned toward the couch 'n' candle vibe. The old-man ethos, however, does nothing to deter the swarm of young locals who come to chill to the classic tracks on the jukebox.
Editor's Tips
- Know Before You Go:
- Friendly advice--if you're meeting pals, specify which Shark Bar they mean. There's a Shark Bar uptown, but Spring Lounge gets its nickname from the large one mounted in the back room.

AWFUL!!!!
by nycgal14
This was my bar up until last week...I was denied entry because i tripped in my high heal shoe. They thought I was drunk and literally got my shoe stuck in a grate...but they treated me like I was autistic and would not even speak to me. I WILL NEVER GO HERE AGAIN. And I use to spend about $100 a week in a bar tab. Not cool. DO NOT GO HERE!!!
- Pros: DO NOT GO HERE!
- Cons: DO NOT GO HERE
Best bartenders in town

I went into this friendly little bar a few months ago on my birthday. I had such a good time with Dave I just couldn't stay away. Since then I've gotten to know everyone. Dermot, Adrienne, Aaron, they're all the greatest. A good crowd, a great beer selection (leave room for shots of whiskey) great jukebox, and totally unpretentious. Just a great little bar in a great big city (something that's not so easy to find these days).
- Pros: Great service, great beers.
- Cons: Can get busy. Stay a little later for the real fun.
Horrible bouncer
by EmSlaught
Ok, so i've been to this place many times before and have always had a great time, until last night! Went with a couple girlfriends and one of my friends lost her ID on the way there, fell out of her pocket. The bouncer wouldn't let her in so she decided to go home. I waited outside with her to get a cab and when I came back to the door the bouncer wouldn't let me back in! Why? I have no idea. He just decided to make me stand in the cold by myself when the rest of my friends were all inside with MY beer! He was being being so rude and my other friend came to ask why I couldn't come back in and he then made her leave too. I'm sure you're thinking "oh they were just drunk", but this was our second stop for the night and we'd only had 2 drinks. There was no reason for that bouncer to treat us that way. Let's just say none of us will be going back!
- Pros: Nothing anymore
- Cons: Bouncer
Cool, Chill Hang Out
by smiley_in_nyc
I stopped by Spring Lounge recently only because I was in the area. On the day that I stopped by, it was kinda empty but I'm assuming it's because it was close to the holidays and most ppl were out of town. Other times of the year that I've passed by, it's been packed. This is definitely my kinda hang out spot. They had a good selection of drinks (and beer... though I'm not a beer drinker), the music was at a volume where you didn't have to yell and the atmosphere was chill. Plenty of seating at the bar and at tables. The bartender was also friendly and quick to ask me what I wanted to drink. I will definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a good hangout spot where you want to have a couple of drinks and relax with some friends after work. :)
- Pros: Decently priced drinks, fast service, nice hang out
- Cons: None
Great Lounge To Stop For a Few Drinks
by rebel1978
After reading some of these other reviews, I was very shocked. I just stopped in Spring Lounge for the first time on Christmas Eve for one drink and had a good time. I liked the wooden floors and bar stools, giving it that dive bar feel. However, the bar itself is very small. Most of the available seats are at tables throughout the bar. There was no bouncer there when I was there and the bartender seemed friendly. I know Adrienne (formerly from the Village Idiot) works here on the weekends and she's great! Drink prices were a little high, unless you enjoy PBR. They have $3 PBR here which is great, but all the other drinks here are a rip off in price. They have a downloadable internet jukebox, however the music selection already downloaded isn't that good. Yes, they did have a Johnny Cash, Lynryd Skynyrd, Willie Nelson, and Hank Williams CD.....but in my opinion, everything else was just garbage pop music. This place works for a quick drink or two, but I wouldn't recommend it for an entire night out.
- Pros: $3 PBR, friendly bartender, not a trendy crowd
- Cons: all other drinks are expensive, bad jukebox
