“great chess place”
Every accessory, no matter what your experience level, for the game of chess..
The Scene
Tucked away in the "chess district," south of Washington Square Park, this is where true enthusiasts come. They shop, but more often they play. The front of the store is devoted to various chess accoutrements, but the back--filled with cigar smoke--is the realm of the serious chess player. Two at a table, five tables deep, men spar over black and white boards and bang the top of a box when their move is certain. Closing time here depends on when the games finish.
The Goods
Boards and chess figures made out of every material possible--beautiful onyx sets, wooden carved pieces, sets depicting the battle between good and evil, whimsical portrayals of the Wizard of Oz and the Simpsons. If real-life playing isn't your thing, there's also a selection of electronic chess games and, to begin the sparring in your own home, a sampling of chess score-keeping boxes.
The WORST Customer Service.

BUYER BEWARE!
Rip Off?. I bought a beautiful chess set here for a christmas gift. It was a pretty pricey. My only problem is that I do not feel I got what I paid for. Now, this could just be my fault for not knowing too much about materials and what not about chess boards and pieces but I also feel that they may have taken advantage off this. Just make sure you know what you are looking for and be prepared to negotiate. They do not post the prices of their merchandise so it is quite possible they will quote higher than it is worth.
