What People Are Saying About Selima Optique

The Scene – Funky, hip and very smart. Antique touches like standing mirrors and wooden cases display glasses in a multitude of styles for any occasion. The salespeople are friendly and helpful and the lofty, calm environment makes you want to stay and try everything on. Fans include Bono and Donatella Versace, to give you an idea of the hip factor. – – The Goods – Frames and sunglasses by all the heavy hitters including Mikli, Versace, Persol, Starck, Helmut Lang and many more. But the real gems are Selima's own funky, often retro frames that come in every color…

Larry at Wooster street, a gem
by dotdashdot
In a few decades of living in Manhattan, I've patronized several eyeglass shops. I'll be candid: I'm very demanding and obsessive about shopping for something that I'll wear every day. After patronizing other shops, the only shop, and the only person I will trust is Larry at Selima Optique Wooster Street.
Larry is fun, knowledgeable, and honest. He is patient, doesn't push a sale or steer you to the higher priced options.
Just go. Trust me on this.
Horrible Service, Arrogant Owner. Wow. I can't believe tha

We called and placed an order over the phone with them and gave them credit card #. Then they called back next day to say that they can't ship them without our sending a written authorization. The next day we find that our credit card was charged. So, we call them and ask them why they charged the credit card if they couldn't ship them. We were told that they shipped them despite not having a written authorization. 4 Days later still no glasses. We get a phone call saying that they never shipped and were still waiting for authorization. We said that it has been over 1 week and we are going on our trip and would appreciate it if they would overnight the glasses ($300) at their expense given the confusion, misleading information and incorrect charge on our card. They said that they agree that they made several mistakes but the owner would not overnight the glasses. We canceled the transaction. Horrible. service. Arrogant owner. Run away......
Excellent customer service!

Selima store in soho still has the good old fashion customer service. This is an independent store run by very friendly, and honnest people. My girlfriend and I returned there after a long search for the right pair of glasses for her. We had tried a couple of other places in the area but we decided to return there because we felt that the staff had been very helpful and very patient with us. To add to this great service, they have a good selection of stylish glasses. My girlfriend found the perfect glasses, she wears them everyday.
Thank you :)
- Pros:
Pretty ok

Finding cool glasses shops is something of a hobby. If you have to wear them, why not make it fun, right? I like the styles Selima produces under her own name, but the rest of the merchandise at her store is much the same as any generic optical anywhere. I didn't get my lenses from them so I can't speak to that.
- Pros: Some interesting brands, pretty store
- Cons: a lot of stuff seen everywhere else
Selima comes to the rescue

I am a New Yorker who has worn eyeglasses since I was 12. I bought the most stunning pair of frames designed by Selima, from her Wooster Street store a number of years ago. With a large glass area they are perfect for rimless bifocals, plus being chic. They are part of my identity.
When I broke a temple piece recently, I went back to see if they could be repaired. There really is a Selima amd she was in the shop. She said she thought they could be and would send the frames on to the factory in France. The wait was well worth it, with periodic updates from Amanda and Larry. Going back there to pick them up and have them adjusted gave me the opportunity to see the stunning styles and made me realize that if they could not have been repaired, I would have been able to find a unique replacement pair. Selima's is a part of my New York "urban village", a city that one often doesn't think of as being a small town.
- Pros: beautiful, unique and different eyeglass frames
- Cons: none
