“The cost was pricey;however, I deserved a treat that me look great”
A fan for many years. I followed my stylist, Gaby, from her previous salon some years back, and I love the staff and decor at John Masters. As for the very few negative reviews here, finding the right stylist is, in part, developing a relationship, and you can't always judge a salon by a first try. Gaby is just the best: she listens to what I want; gives me feedback on things I might not have thought of, like how a cut might relate to my face shape or affect curl, etc.; and she's just such a sweet soul. She is, after 13 years, the only stylist I trust with my thick, wavy/curly hair. I just returned to NYC after two years in CA, where I never found anyone with her skill or sincere warmth. She is one of the many reasons I'm so happy to be back in the city!
Best salon experience ever!!!!!!. After trying almost every organic hair product on the market, and never being quite satisfied, I decided to make an appointment at the John Masters Salon in Soho. I am hooked. The haircut I got is by far the best I have ever had. His products are absolutely amazing!!! My hair never looked or felt so good. The entire experience was wonderful. John Masters is now the only salon I will trust my hair to. AWESOME!!!!!!
Best coloring and hair cut for natural hair. I have to admit that I was apprehensive about getting my hair cut and colored at John Masters. My hair does not have chemical processes e.g. relaxers and I was not sure if the salon could do African American hair. The end result was beautiful hair from the coloring, hair cut and flat iron. CoCo did not my hair coloring and have to say he is truly the best. Elizabeth (Liz) cutted, blowed and flat ironed my hair. She also gave me valuable information on how to manage my hair. I received a lot of compliments and the flat ironing lasted over seven days. The cost was pricey;however, I deserved a treat that me look great . The added benefit was the shampoo and conditioner used were all organic and natural.
over priced and not so great. i was visiting new york from LA and was so disappointed with the quality of cut and service at the salon. the cut was bland, no style at all, and crazy priced considering the quality. Sure the shampoo's are great, but when it comes down to it, i want my hair to look good, and it didn't. i had to get it recut in two weeks because it just flopped and didn't have any style to it.
wonderful cut, wonderful atmosphere!.
Truly the best spa experience I've ever had! John and his team are friendly and flawless -- my hair was expertly cut and high-lighted, and the yummy-smelling organic products he used have made my hair healthier and shinier than ever! The salon itself is gorgeous and calming -- it was the first time I've been able to really relax in what feels like forever -- whatever makes the hair products smell so amazing is also a fantastic stress-buster. I walked into the salon a frazzled and frizzy basketcase, and walked out an hour later looking -- and feeling -- my best!
Can I have an appointment every day, PLEASE?!
John Masters is awesome!. the organic products here are the best ever! I love the pomade, lavender avocado conditioner and the soap and shampoo are wonderful. REALLY amazing salon space too. very very relaxing.
Great Place for Organic Highlights!.
I've never highlighted my hair before, so I chose to go here for my first time (on recommendation of a friend who had a sucessful highlight job here) because I didn't want to ruin my virgin hair with ammonia ridden bleach, etc.
Lorina did a great job on picking a color that was natural, yet stood out. Also, my hair remained soft and shiny like it was before, unlike some of my friends' hair after they get non-organic highlights.
Made me feel so pretty!. This simple yet elegant salon evokes a friendly cliffside residence tucked somewhere in the mountains of Colorado or California...but it's nestled in trendy Soho. Everyone is friendly (especially the adorable doggie) - it's great to see all those fabulous products in the same store - and the haircut I got was superb. My stylist (Rod) took his time to transform what looked like an ordinary mane into a new feature for my personality. It's bouncy, classy ...and dare I say...pretty! The professionalism and careat this salon is top-notch. I will be back.
BAD HAIR DAY.
After reading so many positive reviews, I thought as a bride to be I couldn't go wrong at John Masters but I was wrong. I don't know whether the rainy day got everyone down but I left feeling like I had to cover my head and run from the altar.
Although the stylist was polite, I felt like my presence annoyed the stylist and he was busy watching the clock. I know that it was a trial run but the quality of work was not what I expected. First, bright purple eyeshadow was applied which eventually we agreed was a little too much for a wedding and a simple french twist turned out like a birds nest. It looked like I had laid down and took a nap. For a bride who sought some special attention I didn't feel like I got any notice here.
An excellent salon.
I have been going to John Masters for about a year and a half. It is the only salon I have truly felt comfortable in. The staff is very friendly. The atmosphere is very relaxing. Before they even begin washing your hair, the stylist examines and feels it, really taking time to hear what you have in mind and offer sugesstions accordingly. All of their products smell great and natural, combined with the post-shampoo scalp massage the whole haircut experience is heaven.
Every haircut I've gotten there has been consistently excellent. Since my hair is thick and wavy, this is a very big deal. For years I've searched for a salon that could tame my unruly hair and finally at John Masters I've found one.
