Editorial Review for Soho Sanctuary – by Sandra Ramani
The Scene
Soho Sanctuary features a light-filled yoga studio, a circular meditation-massage room, a library of holistic books and a hand-tiled, chi-balanced eucalyptus steam bath, in addition to six comfy, dimly lit treatment rooms. Two wet rooms boast private showers, and the cell phone-free waiting area is stocked with fruit, nuts and a miniature tea bar. The spacious locker room has showers and beauty products.
The Services
Facials using the holistic Dr. Hauschka line range from a 60-minute combo to the two-hour VIP facial, which includes a sage foot bath, warm compresses and massage. This is the only place outside of L.A. to offer the Arcana Contour Facial Lift, a massage-intensive skin-firming service that's been a celeb secret for more than 15 years. All body treatments come with a half-hour massage and a steam. The excellent full-body massages include Thai, prenatal, hot stone and sports-medical styles. Therapists are knowledgeable and friendly.

I love this place! I've gone for at least all of their services once and each time it has been a dream. The therapists are so attentive and knowledgeable about their profession. The receptionists are trendy and always more than friendly, and if you come on the right day you'll get to see a former ANTM top three finalist! :) GO You won't regret it.
Pros: Great Service
Cons: Wish there was one around every corner!

I recently organized treatments for a group of friends. Everyone had a great time, except for me. I told my therapist I'd like to focus on my back and neck. Over the hour, she basically spent 10-15 min either laying her hands on an area (some no where near my neck) and holding them there for increasing amounts of time, culminating with holding my head for 3-5 minutes. As it was at the end of the massage I decided to ask her about her technique when she came back after I got dressed. Well, she never came back. In fact, she basically went home without checking back in on me. I called the spa director there to complain. Afterall, I had brought in close to $800 in fees for ONE hour on a Sunday afternoon, a fact I brought to her attention. She basically said what I was describing was some sort of cranial blah-blah treatment. I told her that's not what I signed up for and instead of being apologetic, she insisted it was part of their "signature" massage -- something no one else in my party had experienced -- and only offered to have the therapist call me back the following day (two days after the fact) to explain what she had been trying to do. None of this makes sense to me as a client, so I will not be returning. It's a total crapshoot at the Soho Sanctuary, so if you'd like your $130+/hr to go further, I recommend going any where else.
