What People Are Saying About Groove

In Short – Unpretentious, easy-access rhythm and blues is hard to come by in New York. Centrally located downtown, this laid-back, groove-inflected dive presents regular sets by R&B, funk and soul outfits (including the Groove House Band), as well as varying bookings on Sundays and Fridays. Sip an inexpensive cocktail and munch on Middle Eastern standbys while you get your funk on amidst fellow patrons roped in by the aggressive flyer-hawkers in front of the club.
MUSIC COOL - DOOR MAN not too Cool!
by Foxy Girl at Citysearch
My girls and a few friends came up to this place. They have a doorman (if thats what you call him) who is just completely rude!!. My girls hes cool to (sometimes) but my guys who I brought he was totally opposite. The guys at Underground and Cafe Wha and other surrounding venues just check the ID and keep it moving. This EGOTISTICAL dude has to take checking ID to another level and is going to give the wrong person a hard time.
Maybe consider a better quality person (maybe) even management on Thursdays. Just because you're at the front door doesnt mean you use that "power" to give people hard times who just want to come out. My guy friends said they will never go back. Probably me neither. Just because hes at the front doesnt mean hes ALWAYS appropriate. You have to watch the quality of people you hire to GREET guests in a professional manner.
Party on!!!
- Pros: music
- Cons: doorman with earring in eye is rude
Great Times

I try to make it to Groove everytime I'm in the West Village. If you love live R&B/Funk/Hip-Hop/Soul then there is no better place to try...doesn't really matter the night of the week. Drinks are reasonable and the small cover charge is worth it. The tables are tightly packed and the bathrooms are a little shaky but you came here for the music right? Def worth checking out.
- Pros: Great music, drink prices, location
- Cons: small space and bathrooms

Off the hook!
Went there with a date 2 weeks ago. Tight space is the only down side. Mixed crowd. Totally unpretentious and the band was banana's! Typical NYC drink prices but the finger foods were exceptional! I'll be back.
- Pros: live music, good finger food
- Cons: tight as hell!
