these people are crooks – I wish there was a category for ZERO STARS.
I have never experienced such awful service from a story. My wife and I registered for our wedding at Moss almost three years ago now. After a year of waiting our items never came into stock. It took a lot of wrangling to get a refund. This was two years later mind you. So finally we get the check in the mail last fall, and it BOUNCES! Since then I have called several times, each time they promise me a refund check "in the mail" with compensation for my bank's fees for the bounced check. And now after 5 months I have not gotten any such check. I'm weighing my options right now. There are several: a lawsuit, calling the New York TImes, what? I can't articulate how much I hate this place.
ZERO/HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE – I purchased a couple thousands of dollars of merchandise at the Moss store with a gift card. One item of a set of items was noted to be shipped directly to my home once it came in-stock. Almost a YEAR later, I realized I still had not received the final item and I was forced to call the store several times and remind them they owed me an item. They assured me twice over the course of several weeks that this item would ship to me "at the end of this month or the next" -- two months later they finally admitted it seemed the item was NEVER going to be in stock. So I chose another item. They assured me they were shipping the replacement item I ordered...and then proceeded NOT to ship that item until I called yet AGAIN two weeks later to ask where the item was. I wrote an e-mail to the manager requesting he respond to me to address the extremely poor customer service I received. He never responded or noticed my e-mail until I called yet AGAIN to point it out and demand a response. When I asked the manager (in both the e-mail and on the phone) if the store would return my remaining gift card money to me in cash as my experience was completely unacceptable and I had NO desire to shop at the store again, they responded no, their policies would not allow for that, and they made no effort to reach out to me to provide any kind of apology or explanation for the complete lack of customer service and follow-up. In my opinion, this store obviously does not value its customers enough to provide any kind of customer service, and it certainly does not deserve any business that it gets. Shoppers, go ELSEWHERE, trust me!
Home accessories as modern art--with prices to match. – The Scene
After an expansion that tripled its floor space, Moss's homage to Alessi, Phillippe Starck and other names too esoteric to mention has solidified its position as the premier design store in New York. Whether or not you can afford the goodies on display in this white-box space--and there are affordable items at the small, cute end of the scale--there's always pleasure to be derived from the mix of quirky inventiveness, pretension and sheer beauty on display here.
After all, where else will you find lovingly arranged tableaux of the modernist home with captions by Baudrillard? Or plates designed by Cindy Sherman? Or 19th-century china so disgustingly kitsch, it could be by Jeff Koons? Or window displays worthy of a surrealist Barneys? And, aside from the high-priced pseudo-art-objets, Moss is packed full of design classics you can actually imagine in your (ideal) home--just make sure your credit is good before dropping by.
