“The atmosphere of hardwood floors and simple wrought iron racks is the perfect environment to house many Belgium and Japanese designers.”
“But I guess if you do not mind being treated like a piece of dirt by truly worthless human beings, this is a great place for you to find a cliched and mundane jacket by Dries Van Noten at a price that can buy houses.”
“If you want your space to examine the clothes without the pressure to purchase, the customer service is perfect.”
“The service barely justifies the high prices though; certainly if one is spending a bundle the staff could be more helpful and less chilly.”
The uber-chic shoppers headquarters for cutting-edge designers..
The knowledgeable but cold salespeople only offer help when approached, but most customers trickling into this warmly lit, converted loft seem to already have an intimate knowledge of the stock. The store's collection is aimed towards wealthy creative types, showcasing avant-garde designers Dries Van Noten and Comme des Garcons, whose innovative designs have won them space in which to sell their entire collections, as well as a limited selection of footwear. Other experimental designers such as Ann Demeulemeester are also well represented.
Worst customer treatment in the world.
I am not certain why the salespeople at IF are so horrible to its customers. Is it the fact that they can never afford the ridiculously priced (usually at least 20% above retail) clothes even with their employee discount? Or is it simply because their faces are so ugly (you'll see what I mean)?
Contrary to popular belief, a lot of the clothes that IF carries are available all over Manhattan and throughout the world through online websites. The only difference is that even during their fake 'sale' the items still may be twice more expensive here compared to everywhere else.
I will never understand how this horrifying place is still in buisness. But I guess if you do not mind being treated like a piece of dirt by truly worthless human beings, this is a great place for you to find a cliched and mundane jacket by Dries Van Noten at a price that can buy houses.
Best and largest collection for Belgium designers.
The atmosphere of hardwood floors and simple wrought iron racks is the perfect environment to house many Belgium and Japanese designers.
Ann Demuelemeester; Martin Margiela 10, 14 & 22; Carpe Diem; Comme des Garcons Homme Plue & Shirt; Junya Watanabe; Veronique Bronquinho; Paul Harden; Marc Le Bihan and Dries van Noten are the designers that IF carries for men, with a similar selection for woman. IF lends itself to those who wish to take their time perusing. If you want your space to examine the clothes without the pressure to purchase, the customer service is perfect. Don't go expecting to be pampered. Be yourself when you go to IF. Hit their basement sale.
Close-by parking lots are ~ $30/day; meters on Spring and Varick are generally available; or TriBeCa isn't a bad option. Pick up a brownie at Pain du Quotient (next door) for the walk back to the car.
Regretful. A thoughtful selection of clothes fills this space including offerings from designers Dries Van Noten and the elegantly subversive Undercover. That made it worth checking out for me. I tried not to take the previous review seriously as it was written some time ago. Nonetheless, the same problems persists. IF this boutique were to take their customers as seriously as they do the designers they buy from, they could ride their generosity all the way to the bank. As it stands, I was the only customer in the store on a beautiful day and the ineffective, judgemental, substandard service I received made it impossible for me to even think about lining their pockets with my hard earned cash. Have some respect for yourself and avoid this place at all costs.
Do not waste your time. IF is way too overrated. Sure, they have a fairly nice selection of clothing. But it is definitely not worth the aweful service that one has to endure upon entering the store. Poor customer service seems to be the recurring theme with the employees at IF. When I entered the completely empty store, with the exception of the two employees behind the desk, it was as if no one even walked in. The two women didn't even look up to notice the new movement within the store. The clothing at IF in no way merits the pretentious, snobby behavior exhibited by the its employees. I would much rather spend my money elsewhere...where good quality clothing AND service aren't considered an extra task.
Superb!. If there is a better shop for cool clothes in the city, I do not know it. They have the best staff, the best buyers and the best attitude anywhere. Most importantly, they have the best clothes.
Service with a Sneer. Ultra-trendy goods by cutting-edge designers. Prices are higher than the department stores selling same goods (Barneys New York, Saks) but there are designers here you won't find anywhere else, and the selection is excellent. Good men's selection too. The service barely justifies the high prices though; certainly if one is spending a bundle the staff could be more helpful and less chilly.
